1. Call to Order & Welcome @ : 704PM
2. Attendance [Member (M) Guest (G) City Rep (C)]: Kathy Antaya (Chair), Fred Bachman (M), Kristin
Blood (Secretary), Patricia Graw (M), Joanna Hacker (M), Nancy Hoard (M), Catherine LaValley (V-Chair),

3. Approval of Previous Minutes: Moved by Fred B. supported by Cathy L. No discussion. Passed via
unanimous vote.
4. Chair Notes/Announcements/Correspondence: Reminder from Kathy A regarding the many Martin
Luther King events and National Day of Racial Healing events taking place city wide, check the Shopper
for events.
5. Additions or Deletions to the Agenda: None
6. Police Report: Officer Rose discussed the provided police report; discussed zoning on Michigan at
local business; answered questions and encouraged folks to call to report any problems.
7. Guest Speaker: None
8. Committee Reports: (Comments limited to 3 min per topic)
a. School: Cathay L discussed the renaming of Northwestern; highlighted a stuff the bus event at
WKK Prep HS
b. Code Report: Eric M discussed the provided code report; answered questions about dead
animals (call County Road Commission if a dead animal is in/on side of the road 269.781.9841),
logging within the city limits (Kathy A. helped answer about removing liability trees) and a
squatter update at a local abandoned home was discussed.
c. Food Pantry: None
d. Library: Kristin B updated the NPC regarding activities, the creative space and use of library
services.
e. Nominating committee: None
9. New Membership & Renewal: None
10. Beautiful Battle Creek Award/Nominations: Kathy A discussed the history and need to vote on BBCA.
We had not voted on previous BBCA awards. Joanna H made a motion to approve all 2023 BBCA
nominations, supported by Fred Bachman. Passed via unanimous vote. Sara S nominated 8 Kimber Ave
(located behind Fire Station on Michigan). She nominated it because it had a new porch, windows, doors
and had beautiful Christmas lights and foliage. Cathay L supported. Passed via unanimous vote.
11. Old Business: None
12. New Business: Kathy A asked for guest speaker ideas. Pat G asked we ensure our guest speakers be
mindful of limited time. Recommendations of speakers: recycling, parks and rec calendar, Bearcat
advantage scholarship. BC Arts Center, Drone Training facility, Kingman Museum. Fred B stated that a
neighbor's house had burnt down, Ron (chair of ULABA). Any support or Ron’s family would be greatly
appreciated.

b. Members Comments: Reminder to residents to reach out to Officer Rose with any and all
concerns where Police help is needed. The Huntington Bank on the corner of Michigan and
Bedford closed 1.12.24
15. Next Meeting: Feb 12, 2024 @ 7pm
16. Adjournment: Johnny V moved to adjourn. Curtis R supported. Passed via unanimous vote.
