City of Battle Creek Sustainable BC Committee 10 N. Division Street. Room 302A Battle Creek, MI Monday, September 24, 2018 1:00 p.m. Call to order – 1:05pm Attendance –Sue Anderson, Andy Helmboldt, Comm. Lance, Comm. Baldwin, Kurt Tribbett, Mayor Behnke Others present - Liz Paul, Jacob Schacht, Eric Feldt, Lisa Silkworth Approval of minutes – motion to approve the minutes from the August 27, 2018 meeting by Comm. Baldwin, Seconded by Comm. Lance – approved – all yes Reports- Kurt Tribett noted the Waste Water Plant walk through will be on Thursday, October 4, 2018. Mr. Tribett reported about a new filtration system. Liz Paul updated the Committee about the Green Communities conference she attended. Ms. Paul mentioned the event Krazy for the Kazoo event coming up. Ms. Paul also noted the City received the Wellhead grant. Eric Feldt updated the Committee on the timeframe for bringing the Sustainability plan to the Commission. Mr. Feldt spoke about a conference he attended and how to look at development in specific areas. Andy Helmboldt commented on different tours or conferences the Committee could do around the area to help with ideas for Battle Creek. Mr. Helmboldt noted that Calhoun County will present next month on their geothermal system. Sue Anderson mentioned attending Conferences/Trainings if there are City funds available. Ms. Anderson also mentioned having more presenters come to our meetings. Mr. Tribbett mentioned starting the next phase of composting plan. Mr. Tribbett explained the process and also noted the future goals of the process. Membership – Mr. Helmboldt mentioned membership recruitment. Mr. Helmboldt motioned to appoint Liz Paul to the Committee, seconded by Mayor Behnke. All yes. Mr. Helmboldt motioned to renew Kurt Tribbett to a new 2-year term, seconded by Mayor Behnke. All yes. Sustainability Plan – Eric Feldt updated the Committee on the Sustainability Plan. Board Comments – none Meeting Adjourned – 2:08pm Next meeting October 22, 2018 at 1pm

The Committee may make recommendations to the City Commission for their consideration and will be available as a resource on sustainability policy.
