City of Battle Creek Sustainable BC Committee City Hall 10 N. Division St. Room 302A Monday, November 26, 2018, 1:00pm The purpose of this Committee is to increase the City's efforts to incorporate environmentally responsible, cost effective policy in the planning, administration and economic development of its built infrastructure and natural resources. The Committee may make recommendations to the City Commission for their consideration and will be available as a resource on sustainability policy. AGENDA Call to Order - 1:05pm Members Present – Kurt Tribett, Kathy Antaya, Liz Paul, Comm. Lance, Mayor Behnke, Susan Anderson, Andy Helmboldt, Sarah Kelly, Comm. Flores via phone, Comm. Baldwin via phone Approval of Minutes – October 2018 – Comm. Lance made a motion to approve the minutes from the October 29, 2018 meeting, seconded by Mayor Behnke. All yes. Approved. Additions or Deletions to Agenda - None Special Presentations: - Mike McKenzie had to cancel due to the weather. Reports - City energy efficiency activities – Kurt Tribett noted the new pump going in and it will save energy. Kurt also mentioned a new filtration plan that is being investigated and discussed. - Environmental Programs update – Liz Paul noted yard waste collection will end this week. Liz Paul also mentioned that rain barrels should be available before Christmas. - Planning updates - None - City Commission updates – Comm. Baldwin mentioned the Commission would be looking into the Sustainable Plan. Field Trips, Trainings, Etc. - None Old Business - Membership - Kristin Blood – Kathy Antaya made a motion to recommend Kristin Blood as a new member, seconded by Sue Anderson. All yes. Approved. New Business - Climate resiliency - Sue and special guest Mike McKenzie – Susan Anderson discussed climate resiliency and mitigation. Susan spoke of the need to have a plan within the city. Susan would like to propose a climate action plan for the city to go along with the master plan. Members discussed amending the Sustainability Plan once the plan is approved and implemented. Members discussed getting the community and businesses involved as well. - Members discussed adding and finding new members. The discussion of the meeting day and time was also discussed with a possible change in the time to either 4pm or 12pm. Public Comment - none Member Comments/Announcements Next Meeting - January 28, 2019, 1:00-2:30pm at City Hall *****NO DECEMBER MEETING***** - Kathy Antaya noted that fresh vegetables are still available Adjournment – 2:35pm
