MINUTES
Call to Order – 3:30 pm
Attendance -
Members – Kristin Blood, Andy Helmboldt, Kathy Antaya, Kurt Tribett, Bob Gilbert, Patty Hoch-Mulluish,
Mayor Mark Behnke, and Sarah Kelly
Guests – Mallory Avis, Eric Feldt, and Bessie Stears
Approval of Minutes – Kathy Antaya made a motion to approve the minutes for the October 5, 2020
meeting, supported by Kristin Blood.
Reports
- City energy efficiency activities and Environmental Programs update – Bessie Stears discussed various
Consumers Energy reports for different City properties. The Committee discussed different ideas for energy
savings. Bessie Stears also updated the Committee on watersheds.
- Planning updates – Eric Feldt updated the Committee on the new Zoning ordinance.
- City Commission updates – Kristin Blood noted there was a workshop regarding the Waste Management
contract.
Sustainability Plan: - Progress update from Patty and staff, year-end report development
Field Trips, Trainings, Etc. - none
Other Business
- Transit update – Mallory Avis, Public Transit Director, updated the Committee on the fleet and EPA
guidelines. Mallory also updated the Committee about updating the fleet and using more efficient vehicles.
- Membership and 2021 schedule – Bob Gilbert moved to renew Bob Gilbert for a 2 year term ending 2023,
seconded by Kathy Antaya. The Committee discussed the upcoming years meeting schedule and keeping
the meetings on the first Monday of each month. Kristin Blood moved to schedule the meetings on the first
Mondays of each month at 3:30 pm excluding the months of May, September, and November; seconded by
Patty Hoch-Mulluish. Schedule set.
- Public Comment - none
Member Comments/Announcements – Sarah Kelly noted the county recycling center is closed for now.
Next Meeting – January 4, 2020 at 3:30pm via Zoom

The purpose of this Committee is to increase the City's efforts to incorporate environmentally responsible, cost
effective policy in the planning, administration and economic development of its built infrastructure and natural
resources. The Committee may make recommendations to the City Commission for their consideration and will
be available as a resource on sustainability policy.
The committee is grateful for the land upon which we live, and recognizes the Potawatomi Nation as the original
inhabitants. The committee seeks to partner when possible with the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the
Potawatomi (NHBP) Tribe in stewardship of the land and its natural resources.
