BAXTER CEMETERY COMMISSION MINUTES Monday, April 29, 2024 at 4:00 PM “A Growing Community” Baxter City Hall, 13190 Memorywood Drive, Baxter, MN CALL TO ORDER The quarterly meeting of the Baxter Cemetery Commission was called to order at 4:08 p.m. by Vice Chair Robert Ehrich. ROLL CALL MEMBERS PRESENT: Commissioners John Cremers, Robert Ehrich, and Council Liaison/Mayor Darrel Olson. MEMBERS ABSENT: Chair Jeanette Ruff. STAFF PRESENT: Administrative Assistant Mary Haugen. OTHERS PRESENT: None. CONSENT AGENDA 1. Approve the Cemetery Commission Minutes from May 31, 2023 MOTION by Commissioner Cremers, seconded by Council Liaison/Mayor Olson to approve the Cemetery Commission Minutes from May 31, 2023. Motion carried unanimously. 2. Approve the Cemetery Commission Minutes from October 24, 2023 MOTION by Commissioner Cremers, seconded by Council Liaison/Mayor Olson to approve the Cemetery Commission Minutes from May 31, 2023. Motion carried unanimously. NEW BUSINESS 3. 2023 Cemetery Report The commission reviewed the 2023 Cemetery Report. The report gives a brief overview of the new residents in the cemetery. 4. Cemetery Management Tool The commission was updated on the new GIS Cemetery Management Tool. Cemeteries records provide important historical information, and the new management tool will help efficiently manage the mapping portion of the cemetery records. 5. Columbarium Urn Discussion 4/29/2024 Cemetery Commission Minutes Page 2 The commission held a discussion on the types of urns that columbarium niches can hold. The manufacturer stated that each niche can hold two (2) 8 x 5 x 3 cremation boxes. Staff has investigated urn sizes that will fit in each niche. The niche can hold the following style of urns:  Adult traditional canister style would hold two (2) 10.5 urns. Urns will not fit side by side and would have to be offset with one canister to the rear.  Adult basic bronze cube. Niche could hold only one (1) of this style. Full-Size Urn Dimensions: 7.5"L x 7.5"W x 7.5"H.  Adult style bronze box. Niche could hold two (2) of this style bronze box. Boxes could be placed horizontally or vertically. Box Urn Dimensions: 8.5”L x 6.75”W x 4”H.  One companion urn measuring 11" wide x 6 1/4" deep" x 8 1/4" tall will fit in the niche. This urn is large enough to hold two adult bags of ashes. UPDATES 5. 2024 Meeting Schedule The 2024 meeting schedule has been set for the following times:  Monday, July 29th at 4:00 p.m.  Monday, October 21st at 4:00 p.m. ADJOURN MOTION by Commissioner Cremers, seconded by Council Liaison/Mayor Olson to adjourn the meeting at 5:00 p.m. Motion unanimously approved.
