7. Old/New Business
Council Member Bornemann - Offered praise for the Bellingham Police Department in
dealing with recent encounters with violent people. Our police did not use deadly
force.
Council Member Lilliquist - In August 2014, City Council sent a letter to PSE urging the
corporation to limit Coal use. Recently, a bill passed the State Senate to create a
retirement account for closing down the Colstrip Plant in MT. Council Member
Lilliquist recently testified before the UTC encouraging them to work with PSE on how
to decommission this plant. We can have an impact on state-wide issues.
Council Member Barker - Albertsons will be closing and that will create a "food desert"
in Birchwood. There will be a presentation on Planning by WWU students on March
15th at 6pm at Northwood Hall presenting four different concepts for mixed use.
Council Member Vargas - Thanked Ted Carlson and Myron Carlson for getting a room in
the Federal Building for use by the City Council.
