Middle Fork Nooksack River Fish Passage Project Update p. 3 Eric Johnston, Public Works Director, introduced Chad Schulhauser and Renee LaCroix, to explain the removal of a large portion of the City's diversion dam to restore fish passage and installation of a revised fish friendly intake for the City's municipal water supply. The project is expected to reestablish access to approximately 16 miles of critical spawning and rearing habitat. The project has been under construction since January 2020. Staff provided an update on status of the construction and regrading of the channel. There is now a new water intake and a fish screen structure are brought back up into the river. The pipe is a 7-foot water intake pipe. Renee LaCroix, explained that the partnership is a collaborative effort between the City, American Rivers, Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Nooksack Indian Tribe, Lummi Nation, Pacific Salmon Treaty and the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife.
