Call to Order
The Design Review Board meeting was called to order by the Chair at 3:00 PM.
Approval of the June 20, 2023 Meeting Minutes
Jan Hayes moved and Maggie Bates seconded the approval of the June 20, 2023 meeting minutes.
All in favor, motion carries.

Public Meeting
Development of 28,182 square foot (sf) pre-engineered steel building in the Fairhaven
Marine Industrial Park.
Development of 28,182 square foot (sf) pre-engineered steel building in the Fairhaven Marine
Industrial Park. The building will be used for ship building activities and is a part of the overall
master planned development for marine and industrial related facilities located within the
Fairhaven Marine Industrial Park, owned and operated by the Port of Bellingham. The building
will be a similar industrial building to those surrounding it with a simple gabled roof and metal
siding. The conceptual plans show manufacturing on the first floor (25,200 sf) and office use on
the second floor (2,982 sf) and will be 40’ in height per definition #1. Surface parking is proposed
on the north and south sides of the building. Design Review is required because the project is in
the Fairhaven urban village design review district.
Peter Carletti gave a brief overview of the project. This project is coming to the Design Review
Board due to its proximity to a former boundary. The building is an industrial building, matching
several other industrial buildings in the area.
Emy Scherrer reiterated what Peter Carletti said and said it is a requirement to bring this project
to the Design Review Board however the building meets all standards.
Ryan Van Straten said it appears the Board doesn’t need to provide any input on this
project given it appears to meet the standards and matches the uses and exteriors of
surrounding buildings.
There was a consensus the applicant can move forward with the design as proposed.
