Transportation Commission Minutes May 14, 2024, 6:00 PM Call to Order Commission Chair Addie Candib called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM Roll Call Members Present: Addie Candib, Chair; Tim Wilder, Vice Chair; Cindy Dennis; Caroline Dietzgen; Keith Moore; Jacki Quinn; Betty Sanchez; Katy Scherrer Staff Present: Dylan Casper; Michelle Cristelli; Elena Dixon; Natalie Monro; Joel Pfundt; Shane Sullivan; Mike Wilson Approval of Minutes March minutes approved unanimously. April minutes approved unanimously. Public Comment No public comment was given. Agenda Items: 2025-2030 Transportation Improvement Program Update – Joel Pfundt gave a presentation on the Transportation Improvement Program. His presentation included projects that have been removed from the plan along with projects that were added to this plan. Discussion was had regarding the program. TC member suggested having maps on the interactive project pages on the city website. Joel shared the projects maps and explained that they will be used more as a communication device to try and be more transparent. A motion was made to recommend approval of the Transportation Improvement Program to City Council. Motion passed 8-0 Citywide Speed Limit Policy Update – Shane Sullivan gave a presentation on the new citywide speed limit policy update. Discussion was had. TC member asked what the role of the Transportation Commission will be in the conversations about speed. Shane explained that they will be involved in the policy and the actual processes of the speed limit policy. TC member made a suggestion to have education opportunities following any speed limit changes for the citizens of Bellingham to understand why the speed limits are changing and to communicate to citizens the importance of following a posted speed limit. ES567 – Electrification of Transportation Phase 2 – Mike Wilson gave a presentation on the electrification phase 2 project. Chair Report In the coming week there will be interviews to fill the vacant seat on the board. Committee Report Joel – staff presented to the City Council about the Bike and Pedestrian Master Plans. Based on their direction, staff will be taking a resolution back to the Council for their approval. Announcements Bike to work and school day is 5/17. Adjournment Meeting adjourned @ 7:56 PM
