Town of Vermont Board Meeting
July 14, 2025

1. Call to order and certification of notice posting
Kirk called the meeting to order at 7:00. Katie certified the meeting had been posted
according to statute
2. Approval of agenda
Doug made a motion to approve the agenda. Motion carried 5-0
3. Approval of June minutes
Nick made a motion to approve the June meeting minutes. Motion carried 5-0
4. Citizens’ Input
Marc Haukoos made some suggestions about gathering signatures for elections.
5. Treasurer’s report
Heather was not in attendance, Kirk said a few words about the 2026 budget
preparations that will be underway next month.
6. Clerk’s report
There were no new construction permits this month. Bills of note included paying Scotts
for the chip seal, and we paid the H. James and Sons contractors for the Bohn Road
Bridge Project. We also have the propane contract that will pay this month as well. There
was a culvert washout on Forshaug Road and we paid Western Culvert and Jones for
that.
7. Payment of bills
Doug made a motion to pay 90% if the asphalt is still not complete motion carried 5-0
8. Patrolman Report, Mt. Horeb Fire Department, Black Earth Fire District and District 1
EMS Reports
Lots of mowing and the patching for Forshaug Road. The International was in the shop
for brake issues.
Mount Horeb Fire has an Open House on July 23. District 1 hired Cam Parmeden for
the chief position. The budget and volunteer situation looks pretty good there.
Black Earth Fire had a meeting, but Doug did not attend, no news from there.
9. Discussion of changes proposed by the county to the right-of-way in the property
adjacent to town hall
No action needed. We have measured and it is fine.

Alex McKenzie made a motion to adjourn. Motion carried and the meeting adjourned
at 7:40.
The Town Board’s agenda includes a period for public comments. That period, which is not
mandated by state law, is offered to permit orderly and civil discussion of Town public business
and matters. During the remainder of the Town Board meeting, persons other than Board
members and Town officers are permitted to speak only if recognized by the Chair. Public
comment may address any matter pertaining to Town, but must not be repetitive, involve
personal attacks, profanity, or disruptive comments. The Chair may rule any person out of order
and terminate their comment period. By adhering to these principles, we aim to ensure
productive and fair discussions while respecting the rights of all to be heard. We appreciate
active engagement and encourage participation in the governance of our wonderful Town of
Vermont.
