Minutes of a Regular Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting May 1, 2018 A regular meeting of the Blue Springs Parks Commission was held on Tuesday, May 1st, 2018 at the Fieldhouse. Staff: Matt Asikainen Brandon Jackley – Present City Council Liaison: Ron Fowler - Present Michelle Brown – Present A motion was made by Keith Hannaman and seconded by Dena Duhon to accept the Consent Agenda; it passed unanimously. Visitors/Correspondence: None Program/Activity Spotlight: Randy presented on the Right-of-Way maintenance department. The department is comprised of 1 full time employee and 2 seasonal employees, and was added 3 years ago to help maintain all the Right-of-Way grounds throughout Blue Springs. Finances: Dennis reviewed the Financial Report and explained the new budget process that the Parks and Recreation department just completed for the upcoming fiscal year. Staff Reports: Staff reviewed their reports. Parks and Recreation Commission Chairman’s Report: Keith Hannaman spoke about the 4th Annual Kansas City event for the Conservation Federation of Missouri. This event will take place on May 31st at Boulevard Brewery. There will be various speakers and anything related to the outdoors in Missouri will be highlighted during the event. City Council Liaison Report: Ron Fowler was introduced as the city council liaison for the Park Commission. Old Business: Sales Tax Update: The old playground at Ward park has been removed and the new equipment is expected to be delivered this week. The project is expected to be completed by the end of June. Adam’s Dairy bunker project is completed and has received positive feedback. The tennis courts at Blue Springs Park and Pink Hill Park had new concrete poured this week. The projected is expected to be completed in 4-5 weeks. 1 Rotary Park playground is expected to be completed by the second week of May with a dedication being held in mid-May. Bids for the Burris Old Mill Park and Splash Pad renovations are currently open. This project is expected to be completed by Memorial Day 2019.
