Minutes of a Regular Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting May 7, 2019 A regular meeting of the Blue Springs Parks Commission was held on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at the Fieldhouse. The Chairman called the meeting to order. George Deibert -- Present Parks Dept. Staff: Dennis Dovel Kathy Richardson – Present Parks Dept. Staff: Justin Stuart Brandon Jackley – Present Parks Dept. Staff: Mary Herrington Keith Hannaman -- Absent Parks Dept. Staff: Matt Asikainen Maureen Johnson – Present Parks Dept. Staff: Randy Cooper Megan Johnson – Present Parks Dept. Staff: Jayla Coleman Dena Duhon – Present City Council Liaison: Jerry Kaylor -- Present Richard Mitchem – Absent A motion was made by Dena Duhon and seconded by Kathy Richardson to accept the Consent Agenda. It passed unanimously. Visitors/Correspondence: None Program/Activity Spotlight: Justin Stuart presented on the Temporary Art Exhibit. The theme this year is Momentum and has four pieces of art: Inchoate by Luke Achterberg, Cultivate by Tim Jorgensen, Wheels by Jonathan Bowling, and Basics by Matthias Neumann. Any pieces the community does not purchase will be left up to the artist to retrieve their art. The art will be displayed until March of 2020. Finances: Financials were reviewed by Dennis. The department is well within the budget. Staff Reports: Staff reviewed their reports Parks and Recreation Commission Chairman’s Report: None City Council Liaison Report: None Old Business: Dennis reviewed the status of Burrus Old Mill Park. The park is 75% complete. Memorial Day was the target but with the weather conditions progress has been delayed. We are looking at mid-June for the grand opening. New Business: Justin reviewed the fees and charges for various programs/services that the Parks and Recreation Department offers. The spreadsheets were presented to the park commission for approval. A motion was made by Dena Duhon and seconded by Brandon Jackley. It passed unanimously. Dennis explained the 2019-2020 Park Commission Officers are no longer appointed by the commission votes. The Mayor will from now on appoint them. Miscellaneous: None As there was no further business, a motion for adjournment was made by Dena Duhon and seconded by Megan Johnson. 1
