Minutes of a Regular Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting December 10, 2019 A regular meeting of the Blue Springs Parks Commission was held on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at the Fieldhouse. The Chairman called the meeting to order. George Deibert -- Present Parks Dept. Staff: Dennis Dovel Kathy Richardson – Present Parks Dept. Staff: Justin Stuart Reid Hansen – Present Parks Dept. Staff: Randy Cooper Keith Hannaman -- Present Parks Dept. Staff: Matt Asikainen Maureen Johnson – Present Parks Dept. Staff: Jayla Coleman Megan Johnson – Present City Council Liaison: Jerry Kaylor -- Present Dena Duhon – Present Richard Mitchem – Absent Rachel Uptergrove – Present A motion was made by Keith Hannaman and seconded by George Deibert to accept the Consent Agenda. It passed unanimously. Visitors/Correspondence: None Program/Activity Spotlight: Matt Asikainen presented on some of the new updates to Fieldhouse. Since the YMCA shutting down, Fieldhouse has received over 100 new membership units and over 200 new Silver Sneakers sign-ups. A six-speaker system and equipment were installed on Court 1 to accommodate growing class sizes in new classes such as Silver Sneakers Classic and Yoga Stretch. Matt explained that the Active Older Adult Program (AOA) has given those from the YMCA a place to still have potlucks, dance class, and more activities to come. New projects coming up are to start the Aerobics Room Lighting Project, exploration of additional parking for the facility, and to continue member engagement. Finances: Financials were reviewed by Dennis. Staff Reports: Staff reviewed their reports. Parks and Recreation Commission Chairman’s Report: None City Council Liaison Report: None Old Business: We continue to be ahead of schedule with generating revenue from the Parks Sales Tax. For the new sign package, bases are on the way with a completion date scheduled for March 1st. Goal is to have signs at Fieldhouse, Wilbur Young Park, and Burrus Old Mill Park. Wilbur Young Park Playground will have play areas for ages 2-4 and 5-12. This will be presented to City Council in January. Trailways projects are now complete and more trailways to be paved coming Spring 2020. New Business: None Miscellaneous: None As there was no further business, a motion for adjournment was made by Keith Hannaman and seconded by Dena Duhon. 1
