Minutes of a Regular Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting October 6, 2020 A regular meeting of the Blue Springs Parks Commission was held on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at the Fieldhouse. Staff: Jayla Coleman Dena Duhon – Present City Council Liaison: Galen Ericson -- Present Richard Mitchem – Absent Gabriel Mejia – Present Ken Horrell - Present A motion was made by Dena Duhon and seconded by George Deibert to accept the Consent Agenda. It passed unanimously. Visitors/Correspondence: None Program/Activity Spotlight: None Finances: Financials were reviewed by Dennis. Staff Reports: Staff reviewed their reports. Parks and Recreation Commission Chairman’s Report: None City Council Liaison Report: None Old Business: The Parks Sales Tax Sub-committee has been meeting over the past month to determine timelines and what is allowed by State Statue. Dena Duhon presented on this and it was determined that April 2022 is the best option to ensure everything that the Sales Tax will include has an opportunity to get started. Dennis reviewed updates regarding the aquatics study. The final public presentation was held on September 30, 2020. The presentation has been posted on the City YouTube channel and is available through our social media outlets for comments. Dennis then discussed the remaining Park Sales Tax projects. Projects for 2021 are under way. The playground for Hidden Valley has been ordered. The parking lot projects have begun with curb work at Blue Springs Park. The Ward Park Basketball court renovations should begin in the next few weeks. The roof replacement at Vesper Hall is being bid at the time with contractors submitting bids to the City by October 14. The only remaining project for 2020-21 is the sign replacement at Hidden Valley and Blue Springs Park. Staff is working to obtain pricing currently.
