Minutes of a Regular Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting December12, 2023 A regular meeting of the Blue Springs Parks Commission was held on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at the Fieldhouse. Staff: Jayla Coleman Nick Brummel – Present City Council Liaison: Ron Fowler –Present Tony Lopez – Present Almitra Buzan – Present Debbie Canfield – Present Tara Johnson – Present A motion was made by Ken Horrell and seconded by Nick Brummel to accept the Consent Agenda. It passed unanimously. Visitors/Correspondence: None Program/Activity Spotlight: Dennis Dovel presented on the Organizational Chart that shows a glimpse at many of the current and upcoming Parks and Recreation positions. Many of the new positions shown on the chart consist of several recreational positions and a few maintenance positions. There were also some new positions coming in the distant future after renovations of Southwest Park are complete. Finances: None Staff Reports: Staff reviewed their reports. Mary Herrington stated that Vesper Hall completed all of paperwork and meetings for re-accreditation application with the National Council of Aging (NCOA). Shortly after the accreditation committee reviewed the application end of October/early November, staff received full accreditation. Parks and Recreation Commission Chairman’s Report: None. City Council Liaison Report: Ron Fowler explained that at the Mayor’s Tree Lighting, Mayor Carson Ross announced his retirement after 16-years with the City of Blue Springs. Old Business: Dennis presented an update on the Blue Surf Bay Aquatics Center. The lobby, locker rooms and other rooms are in the finishing phase with fixtures being set in place. Lighting and acoustical ceiling tiles are beginning to be installed. Case work is scheduled for January with flooring to follow. Concessions walk-in cooler/freezer has been installed along with the FRP on the walls.Case work and flooring remains. Outdoor aquatics slide tower and slides have been installed. Decking on the north, west and south side is being pured. Tile work continues with 75% of it installed. Surf simulator mechanical room walls have been completed and floors are being prepped to pour. The surge tank walls have been pured. Two additional interior walls of the surge tank remain to be poured. Once pured the cap will be installed and the area prepped for the simulator to be installed in Feb/March.
