The Chairman called the meeting to order. Eleanor Frasier – Present Parks Dept. Staff: Justin Stuart Ramon Magee – Present City Council Liaison: Dale Carter- Absent Jeff Carpenter – Absent Community Member: Barbara Landes Kathe White – Present Larry Randall - Present Greta Hoener – Present Kerri Cole – Present A motion was made by Greta and seconded by Ramon to accept the Minutes of the March meeting; it passed unanimously. Public Art Commission Financial Report: The financial report was presented for review. Information/Updates/Status: Presentations this past month were given by Ramon and Eleanor to the City Council and by Greta to the Blue Springs Rotary Club. Presentations were well received, and thanks was given to Ramon for his slide presentation that was used at both events. Eleanor presented the certificate to Stephen Fairfield. He was very appreciative and said he had not had this honor before. Meg and Sean met with Ramon and Larry to discuss possible ways Metalabs can assist in maintenance of artworks in the city. Blue Springs Art League has offered to arrange for Kohl’s volunteers to help with cleaning artworks. The PAC will need to schedule dates and times for them to work after 2pm. Larry and Justin will work to secure equipment and supplies for art cleaning. Greta reported that the Blue Springs Art League luncheon will be at Clancy’s on Thursday, April 18 at 11:30 and anyone interested should make a reservation. Larry made a motion and Kathe seconded to approve the publication of the Public Art in Adams Dairy Corridor subject to adding logos for the City and PAC to the front of the flyer. Eleanor asked Ramon and Kerri to meet with her to discuss how to update the publication. There is work to do to find out what is missing as well as updating some of the photos and artwork descriptions. Eleanor asked that everyone have calendars available at the May meeting to discuss meeting times. Eleanor and Kathe attended the annual meeting of MACAA on Monday, April 8 in Columbia. Eleanor provided several documents from the meeting that would be helpful in fundraising. It was noted that of the many organizations that belong to the organization, Blue Springs is the only one that is solely public art and one of the few that is a volunteer arts organization. “Momentum” Thirteenth Temporary Public Art Exhibit: Justin reported that all installations went well. The new bases by Parks were much appreciated by the artists. The existing base from “Celebration” was used for “Basics” and there was no need for a base for “Wheels”. Also, PAC was pleased that the Marriott provided complementary rooms for each 1 artist. Eleanor sent an email to the Marriott staff to express PAC’s appreciation and let them know it will be included on the brochure. Justin is gathering all information from the artists to include signatures, artist statements, photos, and websites. Miranda took photos of the art pieces when they were installed but we may need updated pictures prior to publication. Justin will work with Arley to arrange brochure layout and will present it for approval at the May meeting. It would be ideal to have the brochure printed prior to the end of the school year if possible. Eleanor asked Greta and Kathe to help with a mailing list of names and addresses to that when the brochure layout is sent to print, the printer can automatically mail it as well. Eleanor reported that she had spoken with a reporter from The Examiner about “Basics” and other artworks and an article is to be expected. Eleanor has received confirmation that the Mayor hopes to be at the dedication on Thursday, June 13 at the Adams Pointe Golf Clubhouse. 2020 Public Art Exhibit: Initial planning for the exhibit will be discussed at the May meeting. It is still expected that Parks will be requesting a commissioned artwork. Eleanor asked if there was a possibility that Parks will ask for donations toward the art so that the amount of money available may be increased. She suggested that $50,000 would be more appropriate for a commissioned art of this size and importance. Items that need to be discussed and determined soon are Café contract and theme. Ramon asked if there was a Plan B in case the City does not approve funds for the commissioned art. If the funds are not approved, then PAC could revert back to a temporary art exhibit which would be relatively easy to arrange. Scheduled Event Dates: Veterans Way Memorial- Dedication of bench in honor of Mike Leap- date near Memorial Day. This will be a private activity and PAC is not planning the event. Dedication of bench in honor of WWII veterans. D-Day recognition of 75th veterans. This will be an event where PAC will participate. Eleanor will have more info at the May meeting. Corks and Canvas is Saturday, June 22. Eleanor would like to get a banner to place at the top of the tent to note who PAC is. PAC also needs to decide what to have at the tent. It was suggested that notecards with artwork could be presented. Other Business- : None Visitors/Public Comment: None As there was no further business, a motion for adjournment was made by Ramon and seconded by Kerri. Meeting was adjourned at 4:50pm ___________________________________ Eleanor Frasier, Chairman 2
