Public Art Commission

Minutes of a Regular Public Art Commission Meeting October 4, 2023 A regular meeting of the Blue Springs Public Art Commission was held on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at 3:30pm at the Fieldhouse. The Chairman called the meeting to order. Eleanor Frasier – Present City Council Liaison: Kent Edmondson Ramon Magee – Present Parks Dept. Staff: Justin Stuart Taylor Beller - Present Pam May – Present Kamera Meaney- Absent Kathy Cornelius- Present Cydney Carl- Present A motion was made by Kathy and seconded by Pam to accept the Minutes of the September meeting as presented; it passed unanimously. Financial Report. The financial report was available for review. There were no questions. “Seasons” 14th Temporary Public Art Exhibit --Ramon reported that there are 22 applications to date but some did not qualify as they were not appropriate for external display. It was decided that PAC would only review applications from artists who met the qualification of external display. --Following the closing date for applications, the jurors will begin their review and judging. --PAC will plan for six artists to interview. Once the CAFÉ information is available and reviewed, Justin will arrange interview times with the artists. --Eleanor asked volunteers for refreshments during the meeting. Kathy, Taylor and Pam will decide what to bring. Justin will arrange for beverages. --Eleanor said the meeting is from 1:00 to 5:00. The meeting will begin with the usual form of minutes before the process of artist selectin occurs. Art Maintenance and Conservation --Ramon provided information to update the plan for art maintenance, paying for work invoices, and work to be completed. Discussion was what amount should be expected for future maintenance. Justin will look into it. Status/Information/Updates --Veterans Way Memorial Flyer. Eleanor reported she is still involved in arranging a meeting with Meyers Funeral Chapel. PAC needs their approval before it can print. --“New Growth”. Eleanor reported that Blue Springs Art League will be the sole donor of this artwork that is placed at City Hall. It is planned that the Dedication will be April 18, 2024 following their annual Spring Luncheon Event. --Veterans Way Memorial Flags will be displayed on November 9-13. Veterans Day is Saturday, November 11. Discussion was whether the large City flags would be placed during this period (especially on Saturday). Justin will contact Kent and others about this question. --Public Art on City Website—Ramon said he had been in contact with the new person in Community Development about the plan for placing art on the City website. We will continue to monitor plans. Visitors/Public Comment: -None Other Business- --None As there was no further business, a motion for adjournment was made by Taylor and seconded by Kathy.
