Public Notice City of Blue Springs, Missouri Community Development Block Grant Assessment of Fair Housing (AFH) The City of Blue Springs, in collaboration with the Cities of Kansas City, MO; Independence, MO; Leavenworth, KS; and the County of Wyandotte County, KS are currently preparing a regional Assessment of Fair Housing (AFH) to submit to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The City of Blue Springs and the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) will collect data about the community’s current housing infrastructure. Some issues that will be examined include racial and ethnic segregation, concentrated areas of poverty, and challenges facing people with disabilities and limited English proficiency. Input from residents is critical to developing a strong fair housing plan. Questions that need to be answered by residents, include: What are the most important features when choosing housing? What are the top 3 obstacles preventing individuals from living where they want to live? How could Blue Springs, and other area communities, fix housing obstacles faced by individuals and households? The draft AFH will be published in August. A 30 day public review and comment period will follow. The City Council will review and approve the AFH before submitting the final AFH to the City of Kansas City, Missouri for submittal to HUD on or before October 4, 2016.
