CHAIRMAN & COMMITTEE REPORTS 4.01 Chairperson Report  4.02 Committee Member Reports 4.03 Staff Report Sustainability Dashboard: The Board of Aldermen approved the Sustainability Commission's recommendation to move forward with the Sustainability Dashboard. Once the agreement is fully executed, staff will start working with KLA on the development and implementation of the dashboard. Anti-Idling Ordinance: Staff is still working with the City attorney on a new anti-idling ordinance. Staff is expecting to have a draft for the August Sustainability Commission Meeting. Staffing Update: The City of Brentwood's new City Planner, Sam Wuebbles, started last Monday, July 20. During his interview, Sam spoke of his interest in sustainability and touched on his semester studying abroad in Japan where he learned different aspects and approaches to sustainability in regards to design standards, zero waste, food waste, and how the community views themselves as stakeholders. He also highlighted the semester interning at the University of Illinois focusing on sustainable transportation. Sam has expressed an interest in being involved in the City's sustainable efforts. Upcoming Recycling Events:  Shredding - Saturday, August 1 from 9 - 12  Electronics - Saturday, August 8 from 8 - 12  Michelle can be at the August 1 event, but any additional help is welcome. We will need volunteers for the August 8 event. 5. Consent Agenda 5.01 Meeting Minutes - June 22, 2026 Motion to approve the Consent Agenda 6. OLD BUSINESS 6.01 Webster Groves Pumpkin Smash SYNOPSIS: The Webster Groves Sustainability Commission has reached out to discuss partnering on the Webster Groves Pumpkin Smash this fall. PRESENTER:  Eric Gruenenfelder BACKGROUND: Last fall, the Sustainability Commission expressed their interest in partnering with the Webster Groves Sustainability Commission on a Pumpkin Smash / Composting event. The pumpkin smash is a way for residents to compost their pumpkins, turning them into nutrient-rich soil, instead of sending them to the landfill where they release methane. A representative from the Webster Groves Sustainability Commissioned email staff about the 2026 event. They are applying for a St. Louis County Grant and would like to list Brentwood as a municipal partner and that we will provide event promotion, volunteers and event tabling. Webster Groves is also reaching out to the Maplewood Sustainability Commission to see if they will also be a municipal partner. FINANCE / OPERATIONS: Staff received the following logistics about the 2026 event:  The main event is Saturday, November 7, expecting approximately 160 vehicles. A low-volume drop-off will continue through the following Friday, averaging 10 - 12 cars per day.  One 20-yard dumpster will be delivered on Friday, November 6 and collected on Friday, November 14.  They are requesting volunteers for tasks such as greeting, traffic control, tracking zip codes, assisting with games, smashing pumpkins and cleaning up debris  There will be a table available for Brentwood to pass out information. Webster Groves is requesting a commitment letter from the City of Brentwood describing our role in the event. Webster Groves will be sending a template for the commitment letter by Monday afternoon. RECOMMENDATION: This is for informational purposes. 6.02 Community Repair Fair SYNOPSIS: Commission member Anney Perrine has provided an update on hosting a possible Repair Fair. PRESENTER: Eric Gruenenfelder / Anney Perrine BACKGROUND:  Last month, the Sustainability Commission discussed the possibility of hosting a Repair Fair, possibly working with Perenial STL about co-hosting the event. FINANCE / OPERATIONS: Allison Harbison, the Executive Director of Perennial STL, indicated they are interested in working with the City of Brentwood, however they are not at full capacity right now and unable to take on any additional events. Allison indicated she would be happy to meet with staff to discuss how they run their events, as well as share contact information for people who may be able to help with repairs. Is this something the Sustainability Commission wants to try to do in 2026. If so, it may be best to create a subcommittee to assist with the preparation of this event. Would this be a good event for one of the Wednesday evening Pop-up events with Urban Chestnut. Staff would recommend not scheduling the event on September 16, as that is the week of Brentwood Days. Anney is expecting to be in town on September 23 & September 30. Could also push this off to October, spring time or wait until Perennial STL is available.
