Bristol Tennessee Parks & Recreation Advisory Board Meeting May 2, 2013 6:00pm Present: Susie Chandler Sherry Willinger Becky Wilkerson Jerry Greene Jim Goodwin Chris Estep Vivian Tester Richard Heller Bethany Russell Absent: Chris Connally Staff: Terry Napier Crystal Key I. Invocation by Chris Estep. II. Recognition of Bethany Russell – Bethany was presented with a plaque as recognition for her time serving on the commission. III. Introductions IV. Approval of March 7, 2013 minutes – Jim made the motion to accept the minutes. Richard seconded the motion. Motion carried. V. Old Business A. SCP 50th Anniversary Celebration (2014) – 2014 will be SCP’s 50th Anniversary; there is a committee starting to plan events for the celebration. If anyone is interested, let Terry know. B. FY 13 Projects – Terry gave a brief report on the status of the listed projects. • Senior Center Computer sign in system – The system is here. We are working to get all of our current members loaded. Staff has been trained. The system will go on-line July 1. • Senior Center (Registered users) –We have 3200 – 3300 registered users. It looks like the City will begin to charge non-residents an annual fee. • Slater Parking expansion – The City has obtained the property on the east side of the Slater Center. This will enable us to extend parking. • Easter Egg Hunt – This event was held at Steele Creek Park, on March 23rd. There were about 600 people in attendance. • Tree Keepers Program – This program was held at Steele Creek Park on March 9th with 20 people in attendance. • AFMA Winter Conference – March 9th at the Slater Center. It is an educational event as well as market. VI. New Business A. Rotary Field Progress – Not quite finished yet, but the girls are playing there. Work on the facility continues. B. Holston View Park Updates – Replaced fencing, re-worked the fields, and updated the buildings. C. Western Park – Will be updated and re-working this fall. The fence has already been replaces. D. Avoca Park – Made some necessary repairs.  E. 2013 Steele Creek Park Clean-up – Was held on April 20th, with about 75 volunteers. Friends of Steele Creek worked on the garden at the Nature Center. F. Arbor Day Ceremony – Was held on April 26 at Haynesfield Elementary. We had a good day, they kids really enjoyed it. G. Friends Open House – Will be on May 19th and are welcoming pictures from the public to help with the timeline. H. 2014 Planning – Budget requests go to City Council on Tuesday, May 7th. I. Parks and Recreation Reorganization – Terry explained that Parks and Recreation had been given the City’s Purchasing responsibilities. With that addition, Mike Musick will be assuming the liaison responsibilities concerning the Parks Commission and the Tree Board, as well as other additions. VII. Comments from Commissioners VIII.
