MINUTES OF BROOKFIELD CITY COUNCIL June 27, 2023 5:30 PM – City Hall I. Call to Order The members of the Brookfield City Council met June 27, 2023. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Lonnie Trentham at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall. II. Pledge of Allegiance III. Roll Call Council members present: Lonnie Trentham, Sarah Wessing, Jack Forbes, Richard Techau and Paul Frey. Also present: Dana Tarpening, City Manager, Donna Barger, City Clerk and Police Chief, Joel Dixon. IV. Approval of Minutes A motion made by Wessing seconded by Frey to approve the May, 2023 minutes. Motion carried 5-0. V. Monthly Financial Report Financial reports were not available. VI. New Business A. Approval of 2021-2022 City Audit A motion was made by Forbes and seconded by Techau to approve the 2021-2022 City Audit as presented. Motion carried 5-0. B. Consideration from Board of Adjustments A motion was made by Techau and seconded by Frey to approve a conditional use permit for Michael and Brittany Wessing at 102 W. Circle Drive. Motion carried 4-0 with Wessing abstaining. VII. Comments from Citizens Donna Hulett with the Main Street Connection provided an update. The small murals for the railroad underpass is complete. Flag banners are being ordered for Main Street. A committee is working on the layout and design for the vacant lot at the corner of Main Street and Wood Street for a pop up shop atmosphere.  Mary Stone, 312 Lenhart, inquired about an update regarding the dog ordinance and provided suggestions regarding the fines. X. Miscellaneous matters from City Manager Tarpening requested Council to consider the sale of 2 lots that were not previously purchased a the tax sale. Steven Chimski and Richard Normand placed a $100 bid for 601 N. Monroe and 523 E. Wood, respectively. A motion was made by Techau and seconded by Frey to allow the sale of the lots. Motion carried 5-0. Tarpening brought to the attention the drought conditions and the upcoming July 4 holiday. It was agreed the City should be under a burn advisory and do a press release for the citizens about the precautions needed for fireworks. XI. Miscellaneous matters from City Council Wessing inquired about the status of the collapsed building on North Main Street. Frey addressed his concerns regarding the ban of fireworks for the July 4 weekend. Techau requested Tarpening to provide a press release for a burn advisory for the holiday weekend. XII. Adjournment Motion to adjourn was made by Wessing and seconded by Techau to adjourn.
