1.) Call Meeting to Order – Meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m.; Motion to approve was made; Seconded; motion was passed unanimously. 2.) Discussion and Action of Approval of Minutes - Motion to approve was made; Seconded; motion was passed unanimously. 3.) Citizen Comment: None. 4.) Library Report – Brenda Trevino gave the following report: a. There is transition in block schedule; Attendance is up to 50 percent capacity; study rooms are available for check out; we have increased the time patrons can check in. Maker space program is in the works and someone will be joining our team; Brownsville herald featured southmost library it was positive article; Juan Guerra advised that there would be two maker space advisors one for each branch; 5) Dollar General Grant Presentation. Librarian Katie Hernandez presented: a. This is a grant to help students with literacy skills, those students that need it the most, it’s a 4K grant that was awarded, will be purchasing telescope, STEM kits and books; will be recording results based offof attendance. Award date is sept. 6. Rubi Gonzalez made a comment that she is so glad they are bringing STEM to the community. 6.) Texas Book Festival Grant Presentation. Librarian Jose Gonzalez Presented: a. We are applying for 2500 in grant money. The Southmost was chosen to update the electronic collection. By the end of July 2021 we will be notified if we are going to receive the grant. Ms. Sosa inquired into the grant amount; Mr. Guerra stated he would follow up with that. 7.) Give Me Some Space Program. Librarian Kayla Trevino presented: a. This initiative is being it is spearheaded by the Communication & Marketing department; They planned it around space day; there will be two events planned in conjunction; it has a projector in the middle, the kids will be able to experience a 360 film experience and another at the southmost, we will be showing a movie. 8) Summer Reading Program Tails and Tales theme. Librarian Chayse Sundt presented: a. June 14 – July 30; this year we will be doing hybrid In person and virtual. Its also for expecting mothers, there are times where they can read to their tummies and build on that literacy initiative. 9) Story Walk Updates – a. Hope to launch it during the story walk week; we want to start at the southmost trail; it should promote literacy or health habits; partnering with parks & Recreation. 10) BISD collaboration – Juan J. Guerra reported the following: a. Met with Ms. Pena and Ms. Ayala at the southmost branch; the idea was to collaborate with BISD to promote our services; the meeting went well; Leo Rodriguez stated we met with Ms. Pena and Ms. Ayalla, and it was a very successful meeting. Ms. Ayala stated that she is excited, we are going to increase communication, Ms. Pena had a lot of ideas where they are going to get resources where its not going to cost anything. Want to promote friends of the library, they donated the funds to buy the things for the kids; I’m excited about the Southmost Trail. 11) Discussion and Action of Possible Meeting Format: a. Ms Ayala wants to wait one more month; Ms. Alma Knopp wants to wait after the summer to see whats going on; Ms. Sosa is in favor in continuing with virtual format ; Ms knopp made motion to table and Ms. Sosa seconded; motion passes; Issue tabled until June. 12) Motion to adjourn – Ms. Alma Knopp moves to adjourn, Ms. Sosa seconded, motion passed meeting adjourned.
