HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF BROWNSVILLE
Pursuant to Chapter 551, Title 5 of the Texas Government Code, the Texas Open Meetings Act, notice is hereby given that the
Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) of the City of Brownsville, Texas, has scheduled a Regular Meeting, on Friday,
November 12, 2021 at 12:00 P.M., in the Brownsville Public Library – Main Branch, 2600 Central Blvd., Brownsville,
Cameron County, Texas, 78520.
Pursuant to Section 551.127, Texas Government Code, one or more Commissioners or employees may attend this meeting remotely
using videoconferencing technology. The video and audio feed of the videoconferencing equipment can be viewed and heard by

Members of the public who submitted a “Public Comment Form” will be permitted to offer public comments as provided by the
agenda and as permitted by the presiding officer during the meeting.

Architect: A.B. Ayres & A.M. Ayres (1925)

Request: Rehabilitation of a five-story masonry and brick historic office building for its commercial (basement
and 1st floors), multipurpose area (2nd story), and residential (apartments, remaining upper stories) reuse. Project
will follow the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.
Applicant: CDCB.
City Staff: Juan Velez, Historic Preservation Office, 956-548-6142.
Staff recommendation: The building is designated as a HIGH preservation priority ranking. Project reviewed by
the Texas Historical Commission, granted with tax credits. Owner must list and salvage historic building materials
to be removed from the building (some historic doors, glazing, and hardware, historic elevator governors, print
machines, stoves, projected sign, etc.). Reviewed and approved by the Architectural Review Committee.
Approval of the COA.
