CITY OF BRUSH!
MINUTES OF THE MAY 22, 2017 – REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING
The City Council of the City of Brush, Colorado met in regular session on May 8, 2017. Mayor
Chuck Schonberger called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. The meeting was held at Brush
City Hall. The pledge of allegiance was given.
Present on roll call were: Mayor Chuck Schonberger
Councilor Vicky Quinlin
Councilor Jeanine Anderson
Councilor Marlene Baker
Councilor Heath Becker
Councilor Kimberly Dykes
Absent: Councilor Rick Bain
Also present were Administrator Monty Torres, Police Chief Travis Anderson, City Attorney Bo
Chapin, Finance Director Joanne Gosselink, Public Works Director Dale Colerick, Marketing
Specialist Tyler Purvis, and City Clerk Andrea Strand.
MINUTES
The minutes of the regular meeting of May 8, 2017, were approved as submitted.
VISITORS AND DELEGATIONS
Police Department Citizen Award
Chief Anderson introduced John Hirschfeld of Brush who reported a vehicle on Interstate 76 that
fit the description of an Amber Alert on March 8, 2017. His reporting assisted law enforcement
in making an arrest, which provided safety to two young children involved. Chief Anderson
provided him with a certificate of merit.
Brush Chamber – Market Survey Presentation
Marketing Specialist Tyler Purvis introduced representatives from PUMA who provided a
summary of the recent market study they completed for the Brush Chamber.
MANAGEMENT
REDI Grant Application
Marketing Specialist Purvis presented a grant application for council consideration. The Rural
Economic Development Incentive grant is designed to help rural communities diversify their
local economy.

Motions by Councilor Quinlin, second by Councilor Anderson to authorize the REDI grant
application. The motion was approved unanimously by roll call vote.

City Disbursements
Councilor Quinlin moved, second by Councilor Anderson to approve City bills from May 8-22,
2017. The roll call vote was unanimous.

STAFF REPORTS
Police Chief Anderson
• Reported 667 calls for service last week.
• Reported that a man walking toward the middle school with a gun, turned out to be
unfounded, but the police department appreciated the caller. The state patrol and
Morgan County Sheriff Department responded.
• Staff will issue 8 code enforcement citations this week.
Public Works Director Colerick
• Reported the progress on the Downtown Project, Phase 4.
• Rain has delayed the start of the Elm, Emerson and Mill Street projects.
• Reported that spring cleanup was successful.
• Crews are working on the alleys.
• CDOT engineer inspected the 300-400-500 blocks of Edison for resurfacing in 2019.
City Clerk Strand
• Highlighted upcoming meetings on the calendar.

City Administrator Torres
• Announced that the City and the Brush School District has partnered to provide plots for
a community garden. Call City Hall if interested.
• Reported several building sites; Loves, Eben Ezer and the new ambulance building.
MAYOR AND COUNCIL
Councilor Dykes
• Conveyed concerns of needing a traffic light at Hwy 34 and Hospital Road also more
stop signs throughout the city, especially around the high school.
Councilor Anderson
• Provided a complaint to Chief Anderson that enforcement of the speed limit needs to be
enhanced at Hwy 34, west of the hospital. Dale added that he is working with a CDOT
safety engineer on the issue of lowering the speed limit in front of the hospital.
