Approved Minutes Town of Buena Vista Beautification Advisory Board Thursday, September 21, 2023 The meeting was called to order at 5:06pm in the Casa del Rio Clubhouse, 27665 C.R. 313, Buena Vista, CO Present: Board Members: Joy Duprey (chairperson), Dorothy Distel, Colleen Deffner, Sue Benes, Jan Wheeler-Kitzman. Town Staff: Paula Barnett, Alison Hopkins Approval of Minutes • The minutes for the August 3, 2023 meeting were approved Finances 2023 Beautification Funding from Town - $24,255 • Current balance for Beautification funding from Town is $12,829 New Expenditures: Merrifields - Flower inserts -$3692 Brady's - Plants for Xeric Gardens -$485.21 Brady's - Mulch -$480 PSH Signs -2 replacement banners -$116 Beautification Fundraised Funds • Current Balance - $6,621 TOWN UPDATES • Paula announced that the Town website has been updated • Working on improving communication with Sangre de Cristo about their trimming and removal of trees in the downtown area. A meeting is scheduled for next week between Town & Sangre to clarify plans OLD BUSINESS: • Joy placed a large ad in the Chaffee County Times thanking Merrifields Greenhouse, PSH Signs and Sonshine Signs for their work with us McPhelemy Park corner project - $5000 Picnic Tables and benches • Barco Products quote for 4 regular and 1 ADA plus shipping -$6619.51 • Will place order and cover cost difference from Fund Raised Funds • Decided against trying to rehab existing wood table due to cost Approved Sept. 21, 2023 Beautification Advisory Board Forest Square Park Corner Project • Edging and mulch have been purchased and are in process Dog Park Project • The old metal base table from McPhelemy Park has been refurbished with new boards, painted and installed at the large dog park • A second picnic table was donated, painted & placed in large dog park • No new developments with Bark for Your Park Buena Vista Museum Sign • Joy spoke with Museum and they very much want a new sign • Undecided on color and design since it can't be the same as Town signs • Money for purchase will come from our Fund Raised Funds Charles Street Median project update • Work is in progress with boulders being delivered and arranged New Business Replacement Banners • Two of the Main Street Banners were unraveling upon take down. As they aren't very old, Joy approached the company about replacing them. They offered a 30% discount which was applied to the new banners from PSH Scarecrows • Schedule for the 2023 Scarecrow project was outlined. Dates for various aspects were set and jobs were assigned Snowflakes • They will go up the week of Thanksgiving • Need to be checked and more rope lights attached • Will schedule a work day for this on Oct. 14 or 15 ADJOURNMENT • The next meeting will be Thursday, October 5, 2023.
