I found myself at the bus garage filing for John Gregory Duff when he got kicked off for a year trying to represent him when Watkins and Venables was doing something to the man. Um, at that time when I went to go do that, I couldn’t file that paper. Watkins wouldn’t let me do that. Then, I’m in court telling Mr. Elum about how Watkins threatened me up on Market and 5th Street two weeks prior to being kicked off of the bus department for a year for doing nothing. Told him how I went over and had docket and documentation to present my case and wasn’t allowed to talk. (Chuckles) So I’m wondering what kind of law we got going on around here really. Well, today I filed a piece of paper from the Refuge of Hope stating that I was there till the 23rd. King Properties said I moved in to 1019 25th Street on the 1st, had it notarized and collected money for the whole month when I was there for three days and they put a note up saying I wrecked the place. I bought paint and stuff for $200.00 fixing it up, and up in court with docket that I cannot show. Um, Andy, the judge I know out of Youngstown, said just bring your evidence to court. Is there a new law where you gotta file it ahead of time so you know what happens when it gets there? But, now I am paying a fine in Massillon and want to buy the court docket, and they can’t find it. (Brief pause) If you’ll give me a moment. Years ago, I was one of the people on this Council who brought forth what we called community policing, and… uh, for awhile we had it, it went back off, it supplemented the neighborhoods to get to know the policemen. I think this legislation is as important or more important than any other legislation we’ve dealt here to make sure that the Canton streets are safe. This is now fiber optic through a good part of the city of Canton and we’re gonna spend million dollars to makes… millions of dollars to make our streets safer. Um, policeman on the street aren’t gonna do it alone, and I know we all asked the Mayor for more and more police force in the neighborhoods, but this is something else that’s going to be as important as police in the neighborhoods. And I can… can’t recommend this enough for City Council, recommend this enough for neighborhood policing and another branch of community policing. Anyone else? …Roll call vote. MEMBER SCAGLIONE: Just take a lit… uh, take a minute here, but I think it’s important that, you know, I thank everybody for their signature on this letter that we’ll… we will be sending to Senator Sherrod Brown in support of a RAISE Grant for the West Tuscarawas Corridor Safety Project. This corridor has been a troubled corridor for many years with pedestrians getting hit and killed. Many, many accidents, as long as… you know, as well as congestion and other things that happen around the hospital and different areas. If we can receive this grant, it will be a tremendous help in getting this… some of these safety issues concern… uh, concerns addressed. I just want to thank everybody for their support on this, and would hope that we get some help on this and maybe finally get some reduction in deaths and accidents in this corridor. Thank you.
