PUBLIC SPEAKS PRESIDENT SHERER: We are now under Public Speaks and we have three speakers tonight. I would like to remind our speakers under Public Speaks, of the rules of Council. You do get three minutes under Public Speaks. And our first speaker is Ms. Kimberly Bell. Ms. Bell can you please state you name and residential address please. KIMBERLY BELL: Yes, my name is Kimberly Bel,l 1733 Morris Ave. First, I want a…I…I forgot what I was coming to talk about. That was a heated thing y’all had up there and I’m going to point something out about that. Uh but…first I need to apologize Ms. Perry. I tried to make you was the blame for me getting tickets. And I’ve got so many tickets on my car. I got another one today. And Tom…and…it’s my fault. So, I apologize I blamed you. I want to talk about a couple things. First, the issue with Willow Bistro. I won’t get into details, because it…it’s just getting bigger and bigger. It’s just out of control. And I told Ms. Landis, I told her I would see what the City does and the newspaper does about the situation before I fly off the handle. Then this doctor came and said…walked into Willow Bistro and he said he was racist. And what are you going to do about it, to the protester, but I’ll let y’all work on that. But the issue with these kids… you know Jason, you said something about the second and the third time, go to the parents and blame the parents. No, that’s not how you approach the situation. With these kids today, they watching videos, the music they listening to, they…they…they…their uh…praising guns, marijuana, and liquor. That’s what they’re doing. So the approach should be after that third time, bring the kid aside and say look I’m going to give…don’t give the parent the voucher…I’m going to give you a gift card from Wendy’s. And I’m going to write your name down and you got to promise me, and when I give you this $10 or $15 gift card from Wendy’s that you will not be out passed curfew again. Don’t give no gift card to parents. Give it to the child that’s causing the problems. Give it to them from Wendy’s and Chic-fil- A somewhere. Give it to that child to not do it again. I mean…we punish them enough. And the music that they listening to, the parents that…the parents don’t know what their doing in high school, or what they’re doing with their friends. So, that issue…I’m glad that y’all didn’t sign off on it. Kevin said think about it, let’s discuss it. There’s a way to go about these kids now a days. And putting them in a position where you’re going to threaten with going to jail or court, that’s not the answer. That’s not the answer. Okay…I…I… something (inaudible). Get a group of women together like myself who cleaned up her life and have a mentor control…run the streets after curfew. And if I catch them three times or four times, then I would reward them to not do it again. Our next speaker is Mr. Doyle Walker. Mr. Walker could you please state you name and residential address please. DOYLE WALKER: My name is Doyle Walker. I reside at 1427 Housel Ave SE Canton, Ohio 44707. In March I approached this body…uh…also with the names of 240 residents of the 4th Ward of Canton, Ohio regarding issues (inaudible) for Crenshaw Park. To date, uh… there’s nothing reflect…reflecting (inaudible) that suggest there’s been any movement or any movement to address this…uh…address this imbalance. So of this I put at your feet. The reason I said I put at your feet because you are the individuals who represent the appointment Board of Department of Parks and Recreation. A board that’s suppose to use fairness, (inaudible) one that has the allegiance to all the Canton City Parks and that hasn’t been done. (Inaudible) today’s number six item is a contract for Schreiber Park pickle ball court…uh …we approached you in March regarding additional amenities of the pickle ball court in Crenshaw Park. It hasn’t been done and there hasn’t been no discussion and it’s unfair. We ask you to address these forthwith just as you did for Schreiber Park. Secondly, I need or we need you to exercise more oversight over the Department of Parks and Recreation. And more oversight of the ward (inaudible) throw it out the window. Seems to have allegiance to parks outside of the 4th Ward and to the JB Stern Center, then it does parks in our ward, and the Peel Coleman Community Center. That disparity hasn’t been addressed at…at all. We ask you to get on board to do this. This coming election I could possibly be sitting on the board with you all. And if that’s true, I can hold all you in council, collectively and individually plus the administration for these disparities (inaudible) for years and years. I ask you to address these concerns, and let’s get all the amenities done forthwith inaudible). Thank you. PRESIDENT SHERER: Thank you, Mr. Doyle. And out last speaker tonight is Ms. Jolanda Jackson. Ms. Jackson can you please state you name and residential address please. JOLANDA JACKSON: My name is Jolanda Jackson. I stay at 1105 Baker St SE Canton, Ohio 44708. Alright, (inaudible) the kids and…uh…the curfew. One thing that can stop some of this stuff is bringing the D.A.R.E program here. We are the only city in this town without a D.A.R.E. Program. And who could help run that D.A.R.E. program, Officer Sharpe. Where is he at? Ain’t nobody seen Officer Sharpe in a minute, he’s a detective now. You guys gave him a building two years ago. The building’s gone, he’s in somewhere else. He’s sharing the space with someone else. Officer Sharpe was a connection to this community for those kid. So if you really want to do something about that, bring Officer Sharpe back out. Because I Believe In Canton, I haven’t seen him at one and that’s not fair. So that’s something those kids need to see is that connection with law enforcement. Also…also I wanted to address the Wraparound situation, Jason that you have talked about. That’s a disappointment with Stark County Counseling and that’s a system that is failing. Uh…I know because I was in the backgrounds of it. The reason why you haven’t seen me, I’ve been able to step on that board with Stark County Counseling. To address some of those things because the wrap around services they’ve had for 20 years had not been addressed or had not been working at all. So that’s one other thing. The also and the last thing I want to address is the Willow Bistro situation. I called you, Mr. Mayor, about the situation. The owner of the restaurant came down to a First Friday Event and yelled “Hey Hey, the N word.” So whatever it was between her and someone else, leaked to the public. The public is saying something about this because of what she said. Really, we just want an apology because it was a public event (inaudible) when she said it. And we don’t want to keep boycotting and protesting her restaurant because of this. And I know a few have been in there since all this stuff has been going on. So while you support her, tell her we feel some type of way because of this. You also had officers come out to protect her. She’s a felon and the officers you did have come out there (inaudible) are known as racist police officers Officer Diels, So this is becoming some kind of issue, when we looking at. So we’re trying to address this in a peaceful manner. Uh…we don’t want this in our town, just as well as y’all don’t either. So, at the end of the day, we’re trying to work on something that we can come together and resolve this before the Hall of Fame comes. Because we don’t want his in our community.
