We have six speakers this evening. I think some of you have obviously spoken before, but you each have three minutes. We’ll try to get our timer working better than it did last week (laughs). Uh…so you each have three minutes and…uh…our first speaker, and I hope I say this correctly, Rami Hamdan…can you please approach…the podium and give us our name and residential address, sir. RAMI HAMDAN: Uh…Rami Hamdan, 7692 Beachmont Ave. NW. Uh…I know I’m from North Canton, could I start just before, real quick (inaudible) I apologize. No, okay. I spend most of time down here, so I consider this my home. I’m a Palestinian and one thing us, that we take pride in, is we do not like to complain. We take what we have been given and we work with it. We always put or best foot forward so this is very difficult for me to express, but I’m going to try. My people have been suffocated to the most inhumane conditions…that I have ever witnessed at the expense of the good American people. Innocent women, and children, doctors, civil service, civil service workers, humanitarian aid distributors, more than one hundred journalist, EMT workers, and vehicles of EMT workers, schools, homes, hospitals, churches, evacuees, UN workers have been bombed and innocent people all murdered in cold blood. People running to get aid after being starved for one hundred plus days. Massacre and they are calling it the Flower Massacre of 2024. What kind of backboard behavior is this? Killing starved people who are running to food. I have seen so many young children orphan and having to take care of their younger siblings. They have no mother or father now to take care of them. And now I have pictures as well if you would like see after of everything. I have pictures of young teens holding IV bags for their younger siblings. Newlyeds losing their…their spouses or dying after having a wedding in a refugee camp in a tent somewhere ran over by bulldozers, while sleeping in their tent. Entire families wiped out from the civil registry. Little children holding protests saying we want food and we want flour to make bread. Babies dying from being starved. Newborn babies not having any fluids. Electric and water being cut off from hospitals. What do you think happens to the babies in the Nicu’s? Women trying to take a piece of hair from their children before they are wrapped in the white cloth, saying “Let me just have a piece of him,” before they go…crying. Aaron Bushnell was a US Military uh…in the Air Force, he set himself on fire the other day to bring awareness to this. He said I will not be complicit in a genocide anymore. I saw…I have a picture…of a…a man who was ran over by a bulldozer. He has zip ties on his hands and evidence of being tortured. This is not justifiable and this is not okay, this is a genocide. This not going to be swept under the rug. This is going to be brought to light and when the dust settles, I’m going to see this beautiful city stand on the right side of history. If you’re asking what does this have to do with…yo…me, well you’re paying for this and this country has been sending weapons and soldiers, and has been for seventy-five years. Enough is enough. Never again for anyone, not for Palestinians, not for out Black community, not for Jews people, not even for animals. Nothing in this world deserves to be oppressed or treated this way no matter what the conditions. There is absolutely no justification for this. YOMNA ABU-FARSAKH: My name is Yomna Abu-Farsakh…uh…my residential address is 3892 Mt. Pleasant St. And I’m here to talk about Gaza. So, since the start of this war, our eyes have been tearing our hearts have been aching. Since the start of this war, I can’t stop but seeing myself that pregnant lady who under went c-section without anesthesia. I cannot help but imagine myself…that mother who had to comfort her child while getting his both legs amputated without anesthesia. Or maybe I’ll be that doctor who got the news of her family home being bombed and…during her shift. And then start receiving the bloody hearts of her families in a plastic bags. Our maybe that wife that her husband was shot dead while to get some flour to…uh…to feed his hungry children. Maybe the mother who’s cooking her children animal food and all types of other foods is prevented from getting in. Those are all horror stories that have been happening on a daily bases. Uh…knowing that this is happening and we can prevent it is horrifying but knowing that we are funding that, is even more horrifying. My request today is only one thing, is to say no to genocide. Our request is liberty and justice for all. Thank you. PRESIDENT BATES AYLWARD: Thank you Ms. Yomna. Our next speaker is Miss Kimberly Bell. KIMBERLY BELL: Alaikum Salaam. My…Kimberly Bell 1733 Morris Ave. My heart goes out to you all. I was…I was hoping you guys would come. Uh…peop...you know there’s a chain of command in everything we do and…and everything I do and bringing this to…your…your…your to the local level. Well…they will pass it on to our government. And I just saw where all the governors met in Washington D.C. and I wish before they…before they all went to Washington D.C. to meet with the President, I wish you guys would’ve had some letters and took them up to Columbus to give to the…uh…the Governor. But I’m pretty sure…he’s you know…get your letters together, hand them to the President, or the Mayor, or the chain of command here. They’ll pass them on to the Governor. But my issue and I…I really want to talk about what happened over the weekend with…at the Hall of Fame but you know…you know that’s a pet peeve of mine. But the next thing we …you got to focus on with this Hall of Fame. The next act is going to be done by…oh these kids…who’s out…who are out of control. They’re going to you know… it’s….it’s…it’s the weather is going to get nice and they’re going to play truth or dare with the police. And they’re going to try the police and they’re going to do the same thing that this gentleman did yesterday, at the Hall of Fame. So my suggestion to you Mayor, and President, and Council members, you know…we have…we have these…these… the….these…uh electronics that…are…are getting so advanced anymore and you could be…you could have pie in the sky…a camera and you can detect a weapon before it’s brought into…because…the…the…the Hall of Fame is a…it has so may COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS JOURNAL 122 JOURNAL PAGE 105 MINUTES OF THE MEETING MARCH 4, 2024 entrance to it. It’s open and it’s unsecure so…if…if you can get…make a suggestion with the profit they already made they already made at this Hall of Fame. Let’s get some high tech camera so when someone is getting out of their car, that camera can detect a weapon. But I don’t want to talk about the Hall of Fame no more right now because…like I said it’s…it’s…it’s going to get worse with these…the way these teens are with…with the marijuana they smoke. All they do is smoke marijuana and drink. They have…nothing else to talk about other than drinking and smoking so…they’re going to try the police. And they’re going to try them, and try them and try them again over here in the downtown area, at First Friday or whatever. So…so let’s talk to the Hall of Fame about, let gets some…some high tech…electronics to get those cameras, those guns notice before they enter the…uh…Hall of Fame. PRESIDENT BATES AYLWARD: Thank you, Miss Bell. Our next speaker is Abdallah Masn’. I’m not sure if I’m say that correctly. If you could please give us your name and residential address please. ABDALLAH MASN’: Hello, alaikum salaam. My name is Abdallah Masn’, I’m uh…3892 Mt Pleasant St. North Canton. Uh…I was asked to appeal to the heart...giving this…uh speech. And I hope I…succeed in that because by trade I am a heart physician in training. I did my internal medicine in Cook County Chicago. That’s one of the…some of the most devastating communities there and I’m doing cardiology training at Aultman Hospital across the street. I cannot forget in Cook County Hospital there was a…statue of… Louis Pasteur that had this emblem on “One does not ask of one who suffers, what Country and what religion are you. One merely says you suffer that is enough for me. You’ve long to me and I shall treat you.” Uh…I’m eluting to the inequality, I’m eluting to peace and justice…uh…liberty and justice for all. That really caught my attention and that little lady that spoke earlier, my wife. She’s also a doctor serving this community in North Canton. Uh…to give you another piece of my life story. I grew up in Palestine West Bank I grew up…I grew up in Naples and…honest to God I did not know you can drive, or you can go from a city to another city without a permission and you can go overnight or you can go just for fun. Because every time I…we used to go from (inaudible). We had two or three military checkpoints. Every time we wanted to pray in our…one of the most holiest uh…religious places in (inaudible) we…we would not be able…we were not even permitted to go there. And the couple times we went it was a torture to get there. Uh…so the current genocide is only a manifestation of that…brutal occupation. And…what we ask is this is human suffering and in massive scale thirty thousand people…killed and murdered. And as everybody has been saying, really graphic pictures that are beyond description. I ask everybody to acknowledge this suffering. We are brothers in humanity and we are ought to educate ourselves on this. I asked everybody to equally teach ourselves about atrocities going on in the world in Ukraine, Sudan, all parts of the world. And at the end, to our capacity this is only a small step, but to our capacity we have to stand against oppression and occupation. I expect especially we participated in it actively…free Palestine and cease fire now. (Applause) PRESIDENT BATES AYLWARD: Our next speaker is Errick Freeman. So working with the Director Hardesty and the Mayor we came up with this and I encourage everybody to…to talk to the small businesses in their Ward cause this is…this is good for pretty much the whole City.
