I would like to start by thanking the Mayor’s office um .. I called in regards of having my wallet stolen and the incompetents of the police department who wouldn’t take the report, refused to take the report, intimidated me from taking report. Got ahold of the Safety Director and uh … said report was taken and it says no more than uh …theft, wallet stolen. Says nothing about the Vietnam Veteran sitting in there for six hours selling drugs. Says nothing about the sign on the wall, says patrons thirty minutes when they sit in there all day selling drugs okay. So, I go to get the report of Tiffany Robertson when she was attacked at this place and there is no report, they liquidated all that. So, I’m furious I go back down to get a cup of coffee and they rob me five more dollars walk away with my money and come back and tell me I didn’t give them money. I got to the prosecutor’s office tomorrow, about this matter okay? I made another report and they told me to go there and talk to them I don’t know what’s going to happen there but I do want to tell you this, today I called the DEA in Washington, DC. And I spoke to them about the veterans and the drugs around here and the incompetents and their negligent of duty of the FBI and the DEA involved around here. I called the DEA in Summit about (inaudible) forty keys of white powdery substance (inaudible) out of our military. And what did I get for it? Hit in the head, charged with a crime, evicted out of thirty five hundred while im trying to turn in Matt Sheering for selling drugs, related to Beth Sheering, more than likely Curt Sheering. And what do I get evicted by Edward Ellum, who’s relative Joey Barbery had (inaudible), rock city, bull winkles open pits never paid taxes but sold drugs out of every one of them. The FBI can’t catch him well maybe that’s cause Fred (inaudible) said that the FBI represented my Green Barret father who tried to turn everybody in back when Sam Burrion was renting off of the withering and there where drugs in this town. What did he get from the FBI and the DOA? What he got was thrown into Bretsville and called crazy, the same thing you’ve done to me. Except I’m not crazy you’re criminal that’s the difference okay? And I also want to tell you this, I was flown into Lake in Heath, England educated on the criminal control act titled 9 targeting all … most spies, traders and tax evaders and that brings me to you and my military. Our next speaker is Destinee Jackson, Ms. Jackson if you would approach and give us your name and residential address for the record. DESTINEE JACKSON: My name is Destinee Jackson, and I live at 2453 Woodchuck St NE. Good evening Council, many have spoken about the violent culture within the Canton police department and some of its victims, James Williams, Darrell Ross, Zachary Fornash, Frank Tyson and recently Keven Conver. I want to highlight specific, often over looked by the media, first Zachary Fornash was shot and killed by Officer Garett Marino, son of Captain Lester Marino, in 2022. Lester Marino, then a Lieutenant, arrested me on a public sidewalk during a James Williams protest after I more or less explained the First Amendment to him, and told him that I could not … that he could not arrest someone for saying the “F” word which I followed up by saying “F” you and to that he immediately arrested me. My misdemeanor case went to trail, where the top two city prosecutors tried the case. At trial I was acquitted, not by a jury of my peers, but by a magistrate of this city’s court. People were surprised that my case made it all the way to trial and rightfully so because according to the Ohio courts deistical summary, only one point six percent of non-traffic misdemeanors ultimately get to trial. I COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS JOURNAL 122 JOURNAL PAGE 229 MINUTES OF THE MEETING JUNE 17, 2024 wonder how many of those other defendant had not one, but two prosecutors and the top two cities prosecutors at that, try their cases. And in my case both of whom have since been promoted as Law Director and lead city prosecutor. One’s even running for family court judge. After I was acquitted Lester Marino was also giving a promotion to captain. And I say all of that because it raises serious concerns about accountability in the city of Canton, especially when a Captain’s son killed Zachary Fornash. Second, in the body cam footage of Frank Tyson’s death, Officer Camden Burch continued kneeling on Frank Tyson’s neck despite his plea that he couldn’t breathe. After Frank Tyson was handcuffed and motionless, Officer Beau Schoenegge placed him in a near hogtied position held his legs down with his boot and joked with bystanders. Who also assisted in Frank’s death by the way. Additionally, Officer Camden Burch was fired from Target for stealing before CPD hired him, which says a lot about the low hiring standards here. Third, in the case of Keven Conver, Office Nicholas Casto deployed his K9 on him while he was lying face down with his hands behind his back. Chief Gabbard called for Officer Casto’s firing and described his actions “clear violations of department policy that are not in line with their mission values or training”. However, Detective JT Hampton’s role in fabricating a struggle by pulling Conver’s legs out from under him and framing it as resistance, also needs addressed. As do the fifteen plus officers who failed to intervene. It is imperative that this Council address these concerns and ensure accountability because I’ve watched folks speak up about this for … this issues for years and seems like some of you is like talking to a wall. If you don’t want to do this job then go find another. It’s beyond disrespectful. Thank you. Oh and drop Sierra Mason’s *buzzer* charges. PRESIDENT BATES AYLWARD: Thank you Ms. Jackson. Our next speaker is Hasan Muheisen. If you could please give us your name and residential address for the record, thank you.\ HASAN MUHEISEN: My name Hasan Muheisen, my address 615 Rodeo St. Louisville, Ohio, 44641. Ladies and gentlemen, we’ve been here, I think for four months, asking for the ceasefire resolution so every minute which passes increases the damage to life and deepens the harm to the lives of all the civilian’s, without discrimination. War, as we know is so expensive it cost us even as taxes payers thousands of dollars and it cost the country billions of dollars. Let’s see what the peace costs, the cost of the peace is way cheaper than the cost of war because with peace we can build schools, we can build hospitals, we can build factories and the most of it all, we can save lives of the human beings. The lives of the human being weather they are children, woman, or all man. Weather they are young or old, whether they are civilians or not it is the lives of the human beings. Ladies and gentlemen let’s remember that there is seven thousand child, woman, and all people who died, who lost their lives because yet we couldn’t adopt a ceasefire. And be … please be the voice of the people. The voice of the humanity the voice of all the peace lovers, the voice of the children, let remember the families and love ones of those who’ve died of gun violence even in the city here. And those who’ve died from the soldiers who have committed genocide in Gaza and Wrisbank even I lost two of my cousins in Jerusalem, young fifteen and sixteen years old. That’s a waste of lives, we could saving these lives by adopting and let the world know that Canton is for peace and Canton loves the citizens, it’s citizens the same *buzzer* as the (inaudible) Thank you. SKYLAR BRUCE: My name is Skylar Bruce, and I live at 2216 Bollinger ave NE. It’s hot ya’ll, it’s so hot this whole week and it’s not even officially Summer until Friday. Canton’s poorest humans have few options in dangerous temperatures, our houseless community and people with homes but no AC are unusually low on the list of public priorities these days. Most cities near us announce cooling centers several days before the heat wave hits, Canton did not announce anything until eleven A.M this morning nearly a day after serval concerned citizens realized they knew of no plan and started complaining to city officials. This is the same thing that COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS JOURNAL 122 JOURNAL PAGE 230 MINUTES OF THE MEETING JUNE 17, 2024 happened in January at the being of a life threating deep freeze the city has been so much more proactive in previous years announcing warming and cooling centers. The temperatures are not much different than the extremes of previous years, the only thing I know is different is that now William Sheere is Mayor. It looks like callusing difference to the most venerable which tracks with other actions and inactions of this administration. I heard on the news eleven days ago, that the city is in talks with the local NAACP and Urban League to potentially create a police oversite board. It’s telling that when the community comes for you for conversation about policing at every City Council meeting you essentially go behind our backs and negotiate with people you have decided are respectable people who are not us. We remember when you did the same thing in 2020, the community cried out for justice and city officials basically went into hiding. We remember in 2022, when the family of James Williams cried out for justice and William Sheere couldn’t be bothered to say (inaudible) Williams name right. We remember in February of this year when the NAACP showed us their criminal justice team comprised of three old white men with academic and government resumes these people are the system, not the antidote to it. The NAACP had their name on a town hall about Frank Tyson on May 1st but nothing since. If that’s the best the NAACP and the City Administration then do … can do the none of you are listening to the people of the this city. I would like to remind the Council Members that you are not helpless, not only do you have you platform and influence it is you that decides the city budget. You are not helpless on the police budget, you’re not helpless on the police budget, you also have the ability to adopt a ceasefire re- … informal resolution about Gaza but you are deathly not helpless on the police budget. Our next speaker is Ms. Veronica Early, Ms. Early? Oh, there she is, if you could approach and give us your name and residential address please. VERONICA EARLY: My name is Veronica Early, 1627 Rowland ave NE, Canton, Ohio, 44705. Okay, so im here again because I just find it so ironic that the more I talk about, the violent street gang which is Canton Police Department, the more they prove me right. You know we had all those great protest, we had people come from out of the community to help us and al this rah rah stuff and they showed us what they thought about it because two weeks last, they had a police officer actually knowing he was being filmed, let his dog attack a man that was on the ground already hand cuffed. That was a big f you to everybody let me tell you, we goanna do what we want to do when we want tot do it and if you don’t like it shut up and sit down. And we just keep letting it happen but you know again I am here to demand that we get, we need to end qualified immunity, we need to end it. Hold police Officers accountable for killings and wrong doings, we want the George Floyd justice and a police act to be passed, release the names of all police officers that are involved in incidences, place the officers on unpaid leave quit giving them vacations. I mean really, why should they stop doing what they’re doing when they’re getting rewarded for it? And they’re also getting their rocks off, they’re getting all their aggression out on the community, on us. And you know I fear that we have this long hot week coming because how many officers goanna be on the streets they’re angry, they’re frustrated, waiting to just bust somebodies head in just a innocent person that may get pulled over for his oh let’s say, a light being out and will lose his life. Take it … give something for your officers, take care of your Officers please, don’t let nobody lose their life this week. PRESIDENT BATES AYLWARD: Thank you Ms. Early. Council Members, fellow citizens Shalom Alaikum peace be with you all. Today is the second day of (inaudible) which is celebrated all across the globe by Muslims we commemorate the sacrifice of prophet Abraham. Were he submitted to the command from his creator showing his willingness to scarifies his own son. It is a time of joy and celebration, compassion, sharing food. But all people in Gaza have is, is the continued slaughtering of their children in the streets and their body parts spread across the earth. You know there … there was news in the beginning around October or somewhere about Hamaas doing beheadings of babies and then spread everywhere and the CNN did a real investigation and then well there’s no real reports of that but baby (inaudible) was eighteen months old decapitated in Raffa, the … you know the little tent city because he was a threat and I’ve seen that video and I … I cannot unsee it. And women, mother in the house in this chamber know the pain of childbirth. Going into a c- section without anesthesia it’s the usual way of how things go in Gaza. Why? Because you … you know the hospitals were command centers right cause there where suppose to discover a lot of things that were never there. It took ten years and three rounds of IVF for Ronia (inaudible) to become pregnant and only second for her to lose her five month old twins, a boy and a girl. White phosphorus has been used in (inaudible) bombs in Gaza in … in Lebanon there’s all kinds of human rights violations (inaudible) General has added Israel to the list of shame for grave violations against children and armed conflicted. France has banned Israel from participating in the international defense expo the largest one in the world for obvious reasons. Local county and organizations across the country are stepping away from Israel it’s a bad investment, morally financially. (*buzzer*) PRESIDENT BATES AYLWARD: Thank you Mr. Cheema. Our next speaker is Ms. Sierra Mason, if you could approach and give us your name and residential address. SIERRA MASON: Sierra Mason, 2110 Market Ave N. I’m here once again to talk about Frank Tyson and the many other lives that have been lose at the hands of Canton City Police. But also the injustice in the police brutality that continues to wreak havoc over our community. Like it’s already been mentioned just a couple weeks after we lost Frank Tyson we had another man who was attacked by a dog, a dog but then not only do we have him though we had all of these other Officers who were on scene who did nothing, who were complainant to what happened. And we have one officer to continues to down time and time again that they are not safe to have within our community and it’s a shame cause he looks like me. He looks like me. JT Hampton is a problem not only is he attacking grown men in our community, but he’s also attacking children Mr. Mayor, children. And then instead of holding our Police Department accountable those within that department are writing up other officers for standing up for those children. It’s a shame that the one officer who does have a community organization isn’t a part of the community unit, that’s a problem. The one officer who when you talk about the Canton City Police Department and you talk to the little kids in our community, the children, the babies, the one that ya’ll really act like ya’ll care about the babies. The one officer that everybody knows in this community is being silenced, silenced. And im not here to stand up for an officer im here to stand up for the injustice that continues to happen within our system because it’s not right that were out here fighting for accountably from our police officer but then we do have couple that re within that can’t get anything done because even their efforts our silenced just like ours. It’s a problem you’re trying to silence community members by arresting them for talking back and the saying that its disorderly conduct when I promise you if you look at the off … the video there was nothing disorderly about my conduct. And then the offers that I’m getting, im not going to say it on the record but you’ll hear from some of your colleagues. Canton. Uh … I’m here to hold space for the victims of the police brutality that continues to go on in this community and to once again ask what is being done about the other situations. There was a whole another tackling of a person at the dog mauling scene and yet all I’ve heard is that one officer has been put on leave. I hold two associate degrees to be a preschool teacher and as a preschool teacher I have to pay for my own insurance because if I fall or accidently hurt a child I’m the one that’s going to be sued. I’m the one that’s goanna have to pay for it and yet we the people are the ones who are goanna have to pay for the police brutality that y’all have let on for who knows how long. I’ve been through a lot of trauma in my life but I didn’t get PTSD until I lived in Stark Metro housing on Lippard Road for ten years and my house got shot up three times and no one ever checked to make sure I was okay. No one came to fix those … all the bullet holes we went in 2020 and complained about it and they fixed one of the holes but there were still numerous other holes in my house. I finally moved out even though I can afford it because even worst is sleeping on a kitchen floor because you heard gun shots or sleeping on a couch for years because your child is still in the home and that how you feel like you can protect them, by staying downstairs and being able to hear everything. This community is scary and y’all need to fix it and some of the first steps need to come in your Police Department there are some many cops that were at the scene of that dog mauling that need to be held accountable. I can’t even believe that it’s the information is not even out there I can’t even get the video to circulate because it’s so violent. Justice for Frank Tyson. Starting out with the Fishing Rodeo that was really wonderful on Friday and Saturday at Cook’s Lagoon and then followed by Downtown, the Pickle Fest. Not to mention what’s going on at Juneteenth Festival, which was another event but uh … Cream of the cream was the Gospel Meets Symphony that was an awesome event the I really enjoyed and wish that everybody could have attended. But um … the Mayor doesn’t need me to speak up for him but I wanted to let the body know a couple of things, number one, in reference to Skylar Bar … or um … Skylar Bruce’s comment in reference to the cooling station, we started on that last week. We only had one agency that was willing to work with us as a cooling station and the Mayor said that wasn’t enough. We worked all weekend to make certain that we got that set up. So, at the press conversance probably did go out about eleven o’clock but we were doing our due diligence to make certain that we just didn’t have one portion of the community handled, we wanted to make sure that everyone had somewhere to go. And secondly in reference to the comment that I’m hearing in reference to an officer being silenced or an officer not being in the community unit, these officers bid. They have an option of where they want to bid and if that officer is not out in the community initiative, community policing area, they didn’t decided to bid on that position. So I don’t want it to come across as if um … what was stated I just wanted it to be known that they have an option to bid and they bid on were they want to utilize their skills and their talents. They had a team go up to Cuyahoga Falls this was the uh … June 7th the 2024 Cuyahoga Falls Fire Show Down. It’s called Smoke on the Water, a competition they won it last year and they set the uh … course recorded. Well, again they won it this year, set the course record again and beat everyone by nine seconds before the second place team was even there. So, I’d like to say Captain Rich, Captain Canols, Firefighter Collins, and Firefighter Shafer for their hard work on that and represent the city. And I was there with my two kids and I can say they both did a great job representing their department in the city so, thanks to the department heads and as to 2937 for participating in that it was a nice event that we also had representation at.
