TOWN OF CAROLINA SHORES Planning Board Meeting Minutes January 18, 2023 11:00 a.m. At 11:00 a.m., Vice-Chairperson Conte called the January 18, 2023, Planning Board Meeting to order. The following members attended: Ruth Ann Campbell, Ronald Johnson and James Cioe. Also present: Normand Neligon, ETJ Alternate; Commissioner Watts, Liaison; Commissioner Marlene Vandergrift, Alternate Liaison; Chad Hicks, Town Administrator and Nicole Hewett, Assistant Town Administrator/Town Clerk Absent Members: None The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and there was a moment of silence. Ms. Hewett informed the Board that Member Pamela Faria resigned from the Planning Board. Organizational Meeting: Elect Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson & Planning Board Liaison: Elect Chairperson: MEMBER CAMPBELL MADE A MOTION TO NOMINATE DANIEL CONTE AS CHAIRPERSON. MEMBER JOHNSON SECONDED THE MOTION. AS THERE WERE NO OTHER NOMINATIONS FOR CHAIRPERSON, VICE-CHAIRPERSON CONTE CALLED FOR A VOTE AND MOTION CARRIED BY UNANIMOUS VOTE. Elect Vice-Chairperson: CHAIRPERSON CONTE MADE A MOTION TO NOMINATE RUTH ANN CAMPBELL AS VICE-CHAIRPERSON. MEMBER CIOE SECONDED THE MOTION. AS THERE WERE NO OTHER NOMINATIONS FOR VICE-CHAIRPERSON, CHAIRPERSON CONTE CALLED FOR A VOTE AND MOTION CARRIED BY UNANIMOUS VOTE. Appointment of Planning Board Member as Liaison to the Parks Commission: CHAIRPERSON CONTE MADE A MOTION TO APPOINT RONALD JOHNSON AS THE PLANNING BOARD LIAISON TO THE PARKS COMMISSION ON A TEMPORARY BASIS. MEMBER CAMPBELL SECONDED THE MOTION. AS THERE WERE NO OTHER NOMINATIONS, CHAIRPERSON CONTE CALLED FOR A VOTE AND MOTION CARRIED BY UNANIMOUS VOTE. Approval of Minutes: MEMBER CAMPBELL MADE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE OCTOBER 19, 2022 PLANNING BOARD MEETING. MEMBER JOHNSON SECONDED THE MOTION. CHAIRPERSON CONTE CALLED FOR A VOTE AND MOTION CARRIED BY UNANIMOUS VOTE. Administrative Reports: Mr. Hicks said it has slowed down some and there were 81 new homes under construction at the last Board of Commissioner’s meeting. Mr. Hicks said the Shingletree townhome community has started pulling permits. Mr. Hicks said we have heard nothing more about the activity over by CVS. Mr. Hicks said it has been over 60 days since we relinquished the ETJ and the County has asked us to continue handling permits and they expect to have everything resolved in March. Mr. Hicks said the County is having a community meeting with the people there and hopes to have it rezoned in March. There was discussion on the land that is being cleared on Persimmon Road. There was discussion about the project on Thomasboro Road.
