Chandler Public Library

January 24, 2012 The City of Chandler Public Library Board met for a Regular scheduled meeting Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at Chandler City Hall. Meeting was called to order at 6pm by Kari Bersano, Chair Person. Members Present: Kari Bersano, Chair Person Alice Murl Kidd Carol Yarbrough Cindy McKay Barbara Reeves C.J. Hughes Absent: Ann Hall Regular Session: Item 1. Cindy McKay made a motion to approve the Long Range Plan for the Library. C.J. Hughes seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously. • Continue to develop the collection to meet the needs and interest of the community • Provide on-line access to the catalog and library reference • Maintain facilities and increase shelving • Maintain and update technology to ensure good working order • Work with the PEARL Project to assess community needs and form partnerships with other agencies to provide programming to address these needs Item 2. Nancy Bertholf updated the board on the following items; no action taken. • Tocker Grant: Response by second week of March, 2012. I have asked for $7,968.26 which covers the cost of on-line catalog services and 2 new computers for patron usage. Three new admin computers have been purchased with local funds. • 2011 Statistics: Circulation: 15,478; New Patrons: 98/4406 total; Titles: 14310 • Update on authorization benefits • 2012 Library Budget $36,318.50 • PEARL Project: The Chandler Public Library was asked to participate in the PEARL Project in October, 2011. The UNT Department of Library and Information Sciences has received a major grant from the Robert and Ruby Priddy Charitable Trust to assist rural public libraries in Texas. Funding from the Priddy Trust in the amount of $1,599,222 will support a three-year project, Promoting & Enhancing the Advancement of Rural Libraries (PEARL). The goal of the project is to enhance the role of public libraries in targeted rural communities in Texas. Representatives from selected libraries will meet with UNT representatives several times throughout the timeline to design programs that will serve the needs of their patrons. Participants will receive funding for travel, lodging, food and TLA membership fees.
