CHESAPEAKE PARKS, RECREATION AND TOURISM ADVISORY BOARD Meeting Minutes June 2, 2022 This meeting of the Parks, Recreation and Tourism Advisory Board was held on June 2, 2022, during the Parks, Recreation and Tourism board bus tour. Chair Leedom called the tour to order at 5:33 p.m. and official business portion of the meeting to order at 7:37 p.m. ANNOUNCEMENTS None. ROLL CALL Ms. Fuqua took the roll. Attendance reflected a quorum with 10 voting members present and 7 absent. Members Present: Christine Arrasate, James Brown, Donna Cannatella (non-voting ex- officio/CCC, Jean Carideo (non-voting ex-officio/GBBWHF), Paula Faivre, Lindy Huber, Phil Johnson, Bob Leedom (Chair), Chris Lowie (non-voting ex-officio/GDSNWR), Annette Kelley (Vice Chair), Patti McCambridge, Richard Pippin, and Neta Stephens Members Absent: Catina Bondhill, Bryan Carey, Kevin Cole (non-voting ex-officio/CPS), Susan Dixon, Sandy Emery (non-voting Youth Liaison), Jean Holt, Jenna Thimmes, Michael Williams, and Jessica Woodyard Staff Present: Mike Barber, Monica Christiansen, Thurman Diamond, Kim Murden, Shawn Hopson, and Cori Fuqua SPECIAL TOUR: The department conducted a special drive-by bus tour for the Advisory Board which included the following itinerary: Start at the Visitor Center – 1224 Progressive Drive – at 5:30 p.m. Indian River Park, the Rokeby Center, Georgetown landscaping project, Public Safety Operations Center, the Portlock Annex, The Portlock at South Norfolk, South Norfolk Community Center and Athletic Maintenance Complex, Lakeside Park and Truitt, Consolvo Park, Johnson Park, Elizabeth River Park/Snack Shack and Ship Shop, BM Williams Ballfields, Chesapeake Arboretum, Greenbrier Sports Park and Chesapeake City Park, Back to Visitor Center. MINUTES: A motion was made by Mr. Johnson and seconded by Ms. Kelley to approve the May 5, 2022 minutes as presented. The minutes were unanimously approved by the board. HEARING OF CITIZENS: None. REPORTS: None - refer to the Department Report and Park Project Updates. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: • Park & Trail Re-Naming (Oak Grove Lake Park and Trail) – tabled until August. HEARING OF BOARD MEMBERS: • None. NEW BUSINESS: • July Advisory Board Meeting – Ms. Arrasate made a motion to cancel the July board meeting and Ms. Kelley seconded it. The motion was unanimously approved. ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 p.m. NEXT MEETING: There will not be a meeting in July.
