CHICOPEE CITY COUNCIL PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE APPROVED 12-10-2014 MEMBERS Fred Krampits Frank Laflamme Shane Brooks Gary Labrie Gerry Roy MINUTES August 25, 2014 The following are the minutes of a public hearing held Monday, August 25, 2014 at 6:30 PM at City Hall, Council Chambers, 4th floor, City Hall Annex. Members Present Krampits, Laflamme, Brooks, Labrie, Roy Also Present Daniel Garvey (Associate City Solicitor), Councilor Tillotson, Councilor Vieau, Councilor Zygarowski, Councilor McLellan, Councilor Zaskey, Councilor Lamontagne, Steve Frederick (City Engineer), Jeff Neece (DPW Superintendent), Chris Chaban (Assistant City Engineer), Chris Chaban (Assistant City Engineer) In compliance with the open meeting laws the Chairman asked if anyone in the audience was recording the meeting. ITEM #1 ORDERED THAT the Superintendent of Public Works meet with the Public Works Committee to prioritize the resurfacing of streets using the remaining Chapter 90 allocations. Jeff Neece stated that under Chapter 90 for FY 2015 there is approximately $980,000 for road resurfacing. Of that amount $255,000 has already been committed for a section of Broadway, Crestwood, and James. There is remaining approximately $725,000.00. Councilors Tillotson, Laflamme and Zygarowski expressed concern over the condition of Dale Street. They feel that it should be resurfaced. Councilor Lamontagne stated that he has received numerous complaints about the condition of Dale Street. Councilor Vieau stated that there are some secondary streets that are crumbling and instead of filling a pothole that lasts about a month is there any way that 100-200 foot sections of streets could be patched. He suggested that the remaining funds be divided and certain streets repaved for short distances and not the entire street. Motion made by Councilor Laflamme and second by Councilor Brooks to commit $250,000 estimate for resurfacing Dale Street from Hamel to Montgomery and the remaining $450,000 on hold until Spring 2015.
