Tree Board Minutes July 10th 2019 at 4 pm Attendance: Kathrine Killebrew, Wes Powell, Alexandra Wills, Joey Redman, Brian Beuscher, and Councilman Ron Erb. 1. At the start of the meeting Joey announced that he has potentially located a new Big Tree Contest nominee off Rossview Rd. just past Life Point church. We will make sure to nominate this tree for the 2021 Big Tree Contest. 2. Kathrine began her update by announcing that the Forestry office has now moved to 1210 Franklin St. This will be a better spot in her opinion due to the close proximity to her crew and equipment. She updated the Board on the plan for the Franklin St. tree replacement where fewer trees will be planted and more flowers and shrubs will be added. This will add to the aesthetics of Franklin St as well as give the trees more room to grow and not overcrowd each other. All trees should be planted by October 6th. With the reduction in number of trees planted, there may be some opportunity to plant extra trees on other streets. 3. Wes announced that the Tree Board added 6 trees to the Arboretum at Liberty Park during FY19. Wes will also reach out to the people at Plants Map to get the process started for them to provide our tags and host our tree information. Kathrine will reach out to the Parks and Rec design team for a unique logo to go on the tags. 4. Wes announced that he reached out to accounting to see if we were approved for our FY20 budget requests, but was unable to get confirmation. He will follow up again. 5. Alexandra shared an example of the informational insert to send out with CDE bills. It was 1/3rd page front and back. The print was black and white and had great information on it. For future inserts, we would use the same template and just change out the information. 6. Kathrine has located plenty of locations to hang the EAB traps around the city. Alexandra volunteered to assist with installing these 7. Kathrine brought many examples of past flyers for the City’s Memorial Tree Program. This program had not had much support in the past due to many people associating it with death. Kathrine explained that the program was established to plant trees in memory of special events i.e. births, deaths, accomplishments, community support, business grand openings etc. She will work with Parks and Rec design team to put together a proof for August. 8. Wes announced that there is a new task force to plan for the beautification of our interstate exits within City limits (Exits 1,4 and 8). He will have more information next month. With no further business the meeting was adjourned.
