REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY OF
CLEVELAND HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 2016 AT 5:15 PM
CLEVELAND MUNICIPAL BUILDING 190 CHURCH STREET NE
The regular meeting of the Historic Preservation Commission was called to order by
Maryl Elliott, Chairman at 5:22 P.M.
Members present included Maryl Elliott, Randy Wood, Joan Benjamin, Rufus Triplett,
and Phyllis Callaway. Sarah Coleman arrived at 5:26 P.M.
Staff present included Corey Divel, Senior Planner, Janice Casteel, City Manager,
Melinda Carroll, Assistant City Manager, Shawn McKay, Director of Finance/City Clerk,
Darla Jenkins, Executive Secretary, Joel Prince and Allen Johnson of the City Codes
Department.
Others present included Joyanna Love of The Cleveland Daily Banner and Ty and
Bobbi Cardin.
The minutes of the October 27, 2015 meeting were presented for approval.
Joan Benjamin made a motion to approve and Rufus Triplett seconded the
motion. Voting to approve the motion were Maryl Elliott, Randy Wood, Joan
Benjamin, Rufus Triplett, and Phyllis Callaway.
There were no Public Hearings.
There was no Old Business.
In New Business,
a. Ty and Bobbi Cardin request a Certificate of Appropriateness for work at 480
Centenary Ave NW (Tax Map 49L Group A Parcel 13.00). The property is zoned
R1 Single Family Residential (pg1).
Sarah Coleman made a motion to approve and Phyllis Callaway seconded the
motion. A vote of 6-0 passed the motion.
In Other Projects,
Corey Divel spoke of the graveled front yard at 1530 Jordan Avenue. He, Allen
Johnson, Joel Prince, Melinda Carroll and Jonathan Jobe met with the owner today and
are trying to resolve this issue.
Sarah Coleman spoke of a house (little rancher) at Willow with a front yard completely
muddy.
Joan Benjamin spoke of a home on 15th Street and Ocoee Street that had trashed and
too many cars parked at the location. Joel Prince stated the codes officers would check
on the issue.
Phyllis Callaway asked about the grant applied by Corey Divel for the Historic
Preservation. Corey stated it had been submitted but he had not received any approval.
The grant, if approved, would be used on the second floor of the Cleveland Public
Library Historic Branch.
There were no Board Member Reports.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:57 P.M.
