REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY OF
CLEVELAND HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
TUESDAY, JUNE 28, 2016 AT 5:15 PM
CLEVELAND MUNICIPAL BUILDING 190 CHURCH STREET NE
The regular meeting of the Historic Preservation Commission was called to order by
Maryl Elliott, Chairman, at 5:15 P.M.
Members present included Phyllis Callaway, Rufus Triplett, Randy Wood, Maryl Elliott,
Jane Easterly, and Sarah Coleman.
Members absent included Joan Benjamin.
Staff present included Jonathan Jobe, Director of Development and Engineering
Services, Corey Divel, Senior Planner, and Darla Jenkins, Executive Secretary.
Others present included Joyanna Love of The Cleveland Daily Banner and, Ray and
Linda Goble.
Minutes of the regular meeting of April 28, 2016 were presented for
approval.
Sarah Coleman made a motion to approve and Jane Easterly seconded the
motion. Voting 6-0, the motion passed.
There were no Public Hearings.
There was no Old Business.
In New Business,
a. Ray and Linda Goble request a Certificate of Appropriateness for work at 435
8th St NW (Tax Map 49L Group Q Parcel 7.00). The property is zoned R1
Single Family Residential (pg1).
Mr. Goble listed several items for repair. The windows on the second floor will be
replaced to match the windows on the lower level.
The front door will be replaced with a metal door, painted black with fluted trim.
The porch and steps will be repaired. The awning will be removed and a new roof over
the porch will be built to cover the 8x5 porch with the same roof line. The new roof will
not extend past the original porch. Metal columns that look like wood will be placed on
the front porch with hand rails with posts at the bottom.
The brick foundation will be painted the same color as the siding because repair of the
brick would stand out. A section of old steps will be removed as the door was enclosed
years ago.
New siding in a “platinum grey” will cover old asbestos siding. Vinyl shake siding of the
same color will be added to eaves and front eave. Vinyl shutters black in color will be
replacing old vinyl shutters.
A vinyl fence in the back and east side of the house will replace an old wooden fence.
Also, a vinyl picket fence from the north east corner to the sidewalk will be added as
long as the property line is not too close to the neighbor’s driveway. A survey will be
conducted.
The shared driveway will be resealed. Ray Goble owns both properties.
An old storage building will be removed. This building is in the back and not seen from
the street.
Rufus Triplett made a motion to approve and Phyllis Callaway seconded the motion. A
vote of 6-0 passed the motion.
In other projects,
Members mention the two campers parked at Willow and Harle Avenue. This
information will be sent to our codes department.
Maryl Elliott left at 6:48 P.M.
In Board Member Reports,
Rufus Triplett asked how to add locations to the Historic District. Jonathan Jobe and
Corey Divel will research the details for the next meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 6:49 P.M.
