I. Call to Order Mr. Brennan called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. Mr. Brennan suspended other agenda items until after the presentation from Dr. Eun Kyoung Choe and Dr. Amanda Lazar from the UMD College of Information Studies. II. New Business A. Collaboration Exploration- UMD exploration College of Information Studies Presentation by Dr. Choe and Dr. Lazar. 1. Dr. Amanda Lazar provided information about current research interests and topics • Fulfilling volunteer opportunities, research opportunities, and building community partnerships for aging research • Supporting persons with dementia using technology 2. Dr. Eun Kyoung Choe provided information about the current focus of some current research interest and topics • Engaging people to use technology to reduce social isolation and creating more options for people interact with others using technology • Supporting health management and physical activity using technology • Develop engaging software and meaningful technology to reduce health risks associated with prolonged sitting and sedimentary activity  3. Committee members provided information and feedback, some noted discussion points included: • Connecting Dr. Choe and Dr. Lazar with existing organizations o Collaboration with Neighbors Helping Neighbors of College Park (NHN-CP) to provide technical assistance for volunteers and learn about Village Rides Software data metrics capabilities • Volunteer opportunities with NHN-CP • Study participant recruitment opportunities • Providing seminars for Senior Residents to improve aging in place o Senior Social venues and events to host seminars • Dementia Care Providers and resources • College Park Senior demographic data o 250 Subsidized Independent Living Senior Residents o 1,500 65 & over Senior Residents • Joining the Explorations in Aging list serve • Supporting use of digital resources among the Senior Population III. Old Business A. Approval of the April 4, 2018 Minutes Mrs. McClellan motioned to approve the minutes for the April 4, 2018 meeting. Mrs. Hakes seconded the motion. All were in favor, none opposed. The motion passed. B. Discussion of formal committee recommendation to City Council on Medical Aid in Dying Mr. Brennan advised that the legislation period had ended and suggested that a recommendation would not be timely. Mr. Brennan opened the floor for a motion to write a letter in of support of Medical Aid and Dying Bill, and End-of-life care (EoLC). 1. The committee engaged in discussion, recapping the Medical Aid and Dying Bill, the presentation made by Compassion and Choices. Points discussed included: • Views of support and opposition • A need to reach consensus before moving forward and providing recommendations or committee support • A need for additional dialogue among community members and a public forum to promote awareness No motion was made to move forward or write a letter in support of Medical Aid and Dying Bill, and End-of-life care (EoLC). C. Exploration of a Critical Missing Person Registration Form  The committee reviewed and discussed a letter drafted by Mrs. McClellan supporting exploration by the city about using a Critical Missing Person registration form. Additional points of discussion were noted: • Sending the draft to the City Council for further recommendation to assess the feasibility of implementation • Exploring different options to prevent instances of Critical Missing Persons o Relatives and caregivers of persons with Disabilities, Alzheimer’s Disease, and Dementia maintaining pertinent profile Information. The information would be provided to police if a person was declared missing. • Identifying programs geared toward seniors similar to missing children programs like Child Find of America and Child ID. Mrs. Kelly motioned to send the letter to the City Council Mrs. Beck O’Brien seconded the motion. The committee engaged in additional discussion. Mrs. Kelly made an amendment to the motion to add a recommendation for the City to explore means similar to Child Find of America. The letter will also outline a recommendation to explore means available at the county level if it’s not feasible to address the needs of Critical Missing Persons on a local level. Modified summer schedule The committee discussed a modified summer schedule. Mr. Brennan suggested the committee forego formal committee meetings in June and July, hosting a special meeting to review NHN-CP Performance Plans. Mrs. Kelly motioned to forego formal committee meetings in June and July, hosting a special meeting to review NHN-CP Performance Plans. Mrs. McClellan seconded the motion.
