I. Call to Order
Mrs. McClellan called the meeting to order at 7:08 p.m.
II. Old Business
A. Approval of the September 4, 2019 minutes
*Item postponed until after the Presentation on Aging in Place
Mrs. McClellan motioned to approve the September 4, 2019 minutes with noted corrections
membership. Mrs. McClellan seconded the motion. All were in favor, none opposed. The
motion passed.
III. New Business
B. Karen Sylvester, PG County Department of Family Services Aging and Disabilities Services
Karen Sylvester presented information to the committee about demographics, available services,
programs, resources, and prevalent issues among seniors Aging in Place.
Noted topics included Trends and:
• Health & nutrition
• Older Americans Act
• Transportation
• Minimal services available throughout the county
• Available services have income & eligibility requirements
• Housing trends, affordability, home maintenance, and upkeep
o Current housing waiting list in the county
o The majority of services have income eligibility requirements
o Waiting list for county services range from 7 up to 12 year waiting list that hinder
individuals
o Recommendations to supplement county resources through City Level
investment to provide additional services
C. Discussion of Annual Report to Mayor and Council
• Summary of committee accomplishments
D. Subcommittee Updates
Mrs. Hakes provided an update on committee priorities, noted points included:
• Neighbors Helping Neighbors- currently no additional updates
• Hank Greenberg, ARRP Speaker, Age Friendly Community - November meeting
• Discussion on inviting representatives from College Park (CP) Planning and
Development and a representative from HUD
• Recommendations to Mayor & Council to peruse:
o Senior Incentives
o A Senior Housing initiatives that support seniors aging in place in their homes
o Opportunities to establish College Park as an Age Friendly Community
Mrs. McClellan requested that subcommittee members share their updates via e-mail. Mrs.
McClellan and Mrs. Hakes will generate a report for review by the committee before submitting it
to Mayor & Council.
E. Announcements
• Tech event - Saturday October 12th 9 Am -12 Pm
• UMD Driskell Center Expedition Tour- 10.12.19

Ms. Perez motioned to adjourn the meeting. Mrs. McClellan seconded the motion. All
were in favor, none opposed. The motion passed.
