Call to Order Ms. Sutton called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m. II. Review and Approval of Agenda The committee reviewed the agenda. Ms. Wolley made a motion to approve the agenda as written. Second by Mr. Schakner. All members were in favor and the agenda was approved. III. Reading and Approval of Minutes The minutes from the March 15, 2018 meeting were reviewed by the committee. Ms. Wolley made a motion to approve the March meeting minutes as written. Second by Mr. Schakner. All members were in favor and the March meeting minutes were approved. IV. Update on Jan 2019 Event a. Venue – The event is usually held at the Clarice Smith but need to confirm availability. If available, there needs to be submission of an application and the application needs to be approved. b. Speakers – The committee would like to invite Mr. Comissiong to be the keynote speaker for the 2019 event. Ms. Fletcher will reach out to check his availability. c. Performers – Majority of the performers are asking for compensation. Ms. Sutton made a motion for Ms. Fletcher to check with the City Attorney on a disclaimer  regarding religious content to share with the performers and then reach out to performers to check their availability. d. Budget – The 2019 budget was approved with a $2,000 increase. e. Advertisement – Ms. Sutton inquired how well social media helped advertise the event and asked if the committee could reach out to Greenbelt or Beltsville to gain more participation. f. Theme – Ms. Wolley made a motion for the 2019 theme to be “Injustice anywhere, is a threat to Justice everywhere”. Second by Mr. Schakner. All members were in favor. g. Program Layout – Ms. Sutton suggested to start the program with an educational piece that reviews the injustice from the 1960s to current, followed by the welcome message. The proclamation reading by the Mayor should also be included in the program. A complaint was received that the 2018 event was too religious, and the committee discussed adding a disclaimer to the program regarding the religious content. Ms. Fletcher will reach out to the City Attorney for correct wording. h. Videographer – Ms. Sutton made a motion to have Mr. Lyons as the videographer for the 2019 event. Second by Ms. Wolley. All members were in favor. i. MC for the event – Ms. Sutton to reach out to Mr. Cot and Ms. Wilkes to check availability for the 2019 event. j. Action Items for the 2019 event • Meet with Ms. Quinones to find out how well the social media advertisement of the event worked. • Mr. Dennis to contact the Clarice Smith to check availability for Saturday, January 19th, 2019. • Mr. Dennis to contact Youth, Family and Senior Services to check on the availability of transportation for the seniors who wish to attend the event. • Ms. Sutton asked members to provide an update via email on the completion of action items by Thursday, October 4th. V. Dialogue on New Approaches for 2020 Event a. Increase event participation – Mr. Dennis suggested the committee reach out to the Education Advisory Committee to gain more participation from the local schools. Ms. Sutton made a motion for Mr. Dennis to reach out to the Education Advisory Committee to help with participation for the 2020 event. Second by Ms. Wolley and all members were in favor. b. Good Neighbor Day – Mr. Dennis discussed this would be a good opportunity for the committee to reach out in the City to gain more participation at this event. VI. Adjournment Ms. Wolley motioned to adjourn the meeting. Second by Mr. Schakner. The meeting adjourned at 8:33pm. VII. Next Scheduled 2018 Meetings October 18 November 15 December 20
