Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute Committee Tuesday, November 2, 2021 6:00 p.m. Virtual Meeting Members Present Absent Lilla Sutton, Co-chair X Anita Wolley, Co-chair X Dottie Chicquelo X1 Barry LeNoir X Dr. Samuel Ticha X Jakeya Johnson X Staff and Others Monroe Dennis, Councilmember District Two X Sharon Fletcher, Staff Liaison X David Thornton, Staff X2 Carleveva Thompson, Contract Secretary X 1Joined at 6:33 p.m. 2Joined at 6:47 p.m. I. Call to Order Ms. Sutton called the meeting to order at 6:21 p.m. II. Review and Approval of Agenda The Committee reviewed the Agenda for the November 2, 2021 meeting. Ms. Wolley motioned to approve the agenda as presented. Second by Mr. LeNoir. All members were in favor; no opposed. Motion carries, 4-0-0. III. Review of the August and October Meeting Minutes a. The Committee reviewed the meeting minutes from the August 17, 2021 meeting and minor edits were made to the minutes. Ms. Wolley motioned to approve the meeting minutes as amended. Second by Mr. LeNoir. All members in favor; no opposed. Motion carries, 4-0-0. b. The Committee reviewed the meeting minutes from the October 19, 2021 meeting. Ms. Wolley motioned to approve the minutes as presented. Second by Mr. LeNoir. All members in favor; no opposed. Motion carries, 4-0-0. IV. 2022 Event Theme: It’s the Heart that Matters a. Program Participants Confirmed 1 Mr. Thornton confirmed participation by the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity CEO, Sean McCaskill, and has also received commitment from the Alpha Phi Alpha University of Maryland Chapter to perform a step show for the program. Dr. Ticha, Dr. Kaminstein, Dr. Ram, and Ms. Brightstar are confirmed as panelists. Mr. Seawright is confirmed as the MC/moderator. The Committee decided to have five panelists and would like to include a student as a panelist. Mr. LeNoir will search for a student to participate in the program and also provide a fifth topic for panel discussion. b. Proclamation Draft Ms. Fletcher requested the Committee to provide input to include in the proclamation. c. School Participation Plan Ms. Wolley and Ms. Fletcher are working on a plan for school participation. Mr. Young, the City Manager, has approved the use of Committee allocated funds to purchase gift cards to provide rewards to students that participate in the event by submitting an essay or artwork. V. Other Business Ms. Chicquelo requested to have a short biography on each panelist available for the moderator. Dr. Ticha made a suggestion to have the panelists meet with the moderator prior to the event. There was also a suggestion to have the panelists all in one room at either City Hall or Davis Hall, but there may be concerns regarding the vaccination status of each panelist. VI. Next Meeting Date The next meeting is scheduled on November 16, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. VII. Adjournment Ms. Wolley motioned to adjourn the meeting. Second by Mr. LeNoir.
