Call to Order
Ms. Bernache called the meeting to order at 7:47pm.
Old Business
Approval of the May Minutes
The committee reviewed the meeting minutes from the May 21, 2018 meeting. Mr. Toledo made a
motion to approve the May meeting minutes as written. Second by Ms. Day. All members were in
favor and the May meeting minutes were approved.
School Supply Delivery schedule/Review of letter to Principals
Ms. Bernache has purchased the school supplies to deliver to the schools and a letter has been drafted to
provide with the supplies. A news article stated that the green crayon from the Dollar Store crayons has a
trace amount of lead asbestos, but the crayons will not be recalled. The committee decided to remove the
green crayons and include a statement in the letter explaining why the green crayons have been removed.
Ms. Powers made a motion to remove all the green crayons. Second by Ms. Bernache and all
members were in favor.
The following committee members volunteered to deliver the school supplies:
Mr. Toledo: Hollywood and Paint Branch
Ms. Day: Berwyn Heights and University Park
Ms. Bernache and Ms. Ellis: Buck Lodge and Cherokee Lane
School supplies should be delivered by September 4th.
Firstbooks orders for College Park Day
Ms. Higgins has a student volunteer that can add the stickers to the books for community service hours.
The EAC members can pick up the books from the Community Center after the stickers have been
attached.
New Business
Review of draft EAC Annual Report
The committee reviewed the draft annual report and the following items will be added:
Accomplishments – The number of scholarships issued to students and the number of students that
attended summer camp.
• Goals – Increase outreach
- Consider new project of providing a grant for purchasing books for college
students
• Objectives - Reinstate the summer camp essay contest
• Issues – new members needed on the committee
Adjournment
Ms. Bernache adjourned the meeting at 8:39pm.
