Approval of the August minutes was tabled for the October meeting. College Park Day Ms. Barber confirmed the hours for College Park Day are from 12-6p.m. Committee members are to arrive at 11a.m. for set up. Mr. Toledo discussed having a schedule for when committee members would be at the table. Volunteers are needed for the open time slots. Update from Green School Awards Presentation Tabled for the October meeting. Update on EAC Grants The review of grants was tabled for the October meeting. A quorum was not present to vote on the grants. Ms. Bernache started working on summarizing the number of grants awarded by topic to provide an update to the Mayor and Council on the type of grants that have been awarded to the schools. Mr. Toledo will help compile this information into a Google spreadsheet. New Business Review of the Committee on Committee Recommendations The Committee reviewed the following recommendations from the Committee on Committees: • Meet monthly during the school year and report to the Mayor and Council at least twice a year. • Establish strategies and programs to achieve the mission of and goals set by the Pilot EAC report. • Make recommendations to the Mayor and Council on legislative matters that impact College Park residents. • Establish relationships with school principals, directors, PTAs, and school board representatives to identify issues and opportunities. • Work with City communications to develop improved resident information and communication. Letter concerning gun control The Committee plans to draft a letter to the Mayor and Council to ask for support on gun control in schools. The Committee discussed potential measures to support gun control such as background checks, limited gun magazine sizes, red flag alerts, and the impact on local school staff and students. The letter will also ask what safety drills are currently occurring in the schools to protect students. It was suggested to contact Joshua Thomas to find out what current practices the schools are doing as precautionary measures on gun control. Mr. Toledo will summarize the letter topics and send out for the EAC to review. Adjournment Mr. Toledo adjourned the meeting at 8:40 p.m. The next meeting is scheduled for October 21, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. 2
