Approved: 102620 Minutes Education Advisory Committee (EAC) September 21, 2020 Virtual Meeting Attendees Members Present Absent David Toledo, Dist 1 __X __ Dawn Powers, Dist 2 __X _ Melissa Day, Dist 3 __X __ Carolyn Bernache, Dist 4 __X __ Rose Greene-Colby, Dist 3 __X __ Tessie Aikara, Dist 4 __X __ Also Present Kiaisha Barber, City Liaison Carleveva Thompson, Contract Secretary Call to Order Ms. Bernache called the meeting to order at 7:43 p.m. Old Business Approval of the August Meeting Minutes The Committee reviewed the meeting minutes from the August 17, 2020 meeting. Ms. Day motioned to approve the minutes as presented. Second by Ms. Aikara. All members in favor, no opposed, 4-0. Town Hall with Joshua Thomas Ms. Aikara informed the Committee that Mr. Thomas is available on October 19th or October 20th. It was suggested to move the scheduled EAC meeting to October 12th or October 26th in order to have the town hall on October 19th. Ms. Barber has a meeting with the Communications Coordinator to help with advertisement for the upcoming town hall. Remaining books from Food Drive Book give-away Mr. Toledo will hold the remaining books until the beginning of next school year. 1 Ms. Doris Ellis Scholarship Mr. Toledo set up the link for the essay contest for students to apply for the Ms. Ellis scholarship. Ms. Bernache motioned to send out the essay application after final review by the EAC for Mr. Toledo to make any corrections. Second by Ms. Aikara. All members in favor; no opposed, 4-0. New Business School Supply Donations The Committee decided to proceed with obtaining school supplies to donate to the schools. School Grant Reports Ms. Barber informed the EAC that some grant applications were emailed to the Committee members on September 21, 2020 for their review.
