Call to Order
Ms. Bernache called the meeting to order at 7:34 p.m.
Approval of the September Meeting Minutes
The Committee reviewed the meeting minutes from the September 21, 2020 meeting.
Ms. Bernache motioned to approve the minutes as presented. Second by Ms.
Greene-Colby. All members in favor, no opposed, 7-0.
Feedback on Town Hall with Joshua Thomas
Ms. Aikara gave the Committee an update on the Town Hall held on October 19, 2020.
There were about 37 people in attendance. The P3 project for the schools was
discussed. The Committee discussed how the event was advertised and brainstormed
additional ways to advertise the next town hall. Ms. Aikara will contact Mr. Thomas to
get his availability for a future town hall.
Update on Ms. Doris Ellis Scholarship

Majority of the entries for the essay contest are from Greenbelt Middle. Parkdale High
School and Buck Lodge Middle also have entries.
Ms. Bernache motioned to extend the deadline until November 6, 2020. Second
by Ms. Daniel. All members in favor; no opposed, 7-0.
Update on School Supply Donations
Ms. Bernache informed the Committee of the plan to open schools in February. If the
schools open, Ms. Bernache will check if Dollar Tree will deliver the supplies directly to
the schools. If the schools will not open, the supplies can be distributed at a College
Park Food Drive. The Committee discussed cost comparing to see which company has
the best prices for school supplies. Ms. Bernache will check with the school principals to
verify what school supplies are needed.
Ms. Powers motioned for the EAC to purchase $2,000 of school supplies to send to
local elementary schools. Second by Ms. Aikara. All members in favor; no
opposed, 7-0.
EAC Grant Review
Ms. Barber informed the Committee that the approval of the grants is on the November
10, 2020 Mayor and Council agenda.
Berwyn Heights Elementary - $2,750 grant for Books in Their Hands Program
The EAC voted for this grant to move forward to City Council. All members in
favor; 8-0.
Buck Lodge - $2,750 for Positive Behaviors Intervention & Supports Incentive
The EAC conditionally approved this grant. The EAC will ask that the $800 in food
and snacks be repurposed for incentives for family or for school supplies. The
school also needs to provide a distribution plan or fill the school store and confirm
that the T-shirts are free. All members in favor; 8-0.
Cherokee Lane Elementary - $2,750 for Afterschool Kindergarten Virtual Enrichment
Program
The EAC voted for this grant to move forward to City Council. All members in
favor; 8-0.
Hollywood Elementary - $8,000 for Chromebooks
The EAC voted for this grant to move forward to City Council. All members in
favor; 8-0.
Greenbelt Middle - $8,000 for Extended Learning Opportunity

The EAC voted for this grant to move forward to City Council. All members in
favor; 8-0.
Paint Branch Elementary - $8,000 for iPads
The EAC voted for this grant to move forward to City Council. All members in
favor; 7-0. (Ms. Powers recused herself from the vote.)
Parkdale, High Point, College Park Academy and University Park Elementary have not
submitted grant applications.
