Minutes Education Advisory Committee (EAC) January 25, 2021 Virtual Meeting Attendees Members Present Absent David Toledo, Dist 1 __X _ Vilay Senthep, Dist 1 __X _ Mary Daniel, Dist 2 _X _ Dawn Powers, Dist 2 __X _ Melissa Day, Dist 3 __X _ Rose Greene-Colby, Dist 3 __X __ Carolyn Bernache, Dist 4 __X __ Tessie Aikara, Dist 4 __X __ Also Present Carleveva Thompson, Contract Secretary Call to Order Ms. Bernache called the meeting to order at 7:33 p.m. Old Business Approval of the November Meeting Minutes The Committee reviewed the meeting minutes from the November 16, 2020 meeting. Ms. Aikara motioned to approve the minutes as presented. Second by Ms. Greene-Colby. All members in favor; no opposed; 6-0. The Committee reviewed the meeting minutes from the November 30, 2020 meeting. Ms. Daniel motioned to approve the minutes as presented. Second by Ms. Bernache. All members in favor; no opposed; 6-0. Update on Doris Ellis Scholarship The presentation for the winners of the Doris Ellis Scholarship will be held during the February 9, 2021 City Council session. EAC Grant Submissions Postponed until next meeting. Reschedule of Q&A with PGCPS Board member Joshua Thomas 1 Ms. Aikara stated the new date for the meeting with Joshua Thomas is scheduled for February 18, 2021. The Committee discussed ways to obtain questions prior to the meeting. It was asked if the meeting flyer is in Spanish and if printed copies can be available for EAC members to distribute. New Business Discussion of possible new initiatives for 2021 The Committee brainstormed the following ideas:  A database for tutoring  A list of volunteers willing to be guest readers for the schools  Create short videos and other forms of communications by partnering with the schools.  Provide a survey to key administrators to see what is needed during the pandemic.  Submit articles in the College Park Newspaper for events Adjournment Ms. Bernache adjourned the meeting at 8:25 p.m. 2
