Call to Order
Ms. Bernache called the meeting to order at 7:55 p.m.
Old Business
Approval of the October Meeting Minutes
The Committee reviewed the meeting minutes from the October 18, 2021 meeting.
Mr. Levin motioned to approve the minutes as presented. Second by Mr. Toledo. All
members in favor; no opposed. Motion carries, 6-0-0.
Update on Winners of the Summer Camp Survey
Ms. Barber provided an update that the winners were contacted and received their gift cards.
The list of winners was provided to the Mayor and Council.
Update on PTA/PTO membership stipends
Ms. Bernache contacted the schools regarding the cost of PTA membership and was informed
that if there is a cost, the cost of membership is $20. The schools did communicate they are
looking for ways to get more parent participation. Schools are in need of English translators and
to help parents with child care to attend the meetings. The Committee decided to provide grants
for the schools to help gain more PTA participation and to use the grant money as needed for
scheduled meetings.
Ms. Powers motioned to provide five elementary schools with $200 grants for their PTA.
Second by Mr. Toledo. All members in favor; no opposed. Motion carries, 6-0-0.
Update on Book Distribution Plans
The Committee decided to push the book distribution to next year in March or April.
Next Steps for Achievement Recognition Strategies
The yard signs have been delivered. The Committee will draft a letter to inform the schools of
the yard signs that are available to show student achievements.
EAC Education Grants
The Committee reviewed the following grant applications:
Berwyn Heights Elementary: $2,750 grant request for social and emotional learning resource
support.
Ms. Bernache motioned to approve the grant for Berwyn Heights. Second by Ms. Aikara.
All members in favor; no opposed. Motion carries, 6-0-0
Buck Lodge Middle School: $2,750 grant request for positive behavior intervention and supports
incentive program.
Ms. Aikara motioned to approve the grant for Buck Lodge. Second by Mr. Levin. All
members in favor; no opposed. Motion carries, 6-0-0.
College Park Academy: $2,250 grant request to maintain the Environmental Club
Mr. Toledo motioned to approve the grant for College Park Academy. Second Ms. Aikara.
All members in favor; no opposed. Motion carries, 6-0-0.
Greenbelt Middle: $8,000 grant request for extended learning opportunities.
Ms. Powers motioned to approve the grant for Greenbelt Middle. Second by Ms.
Bernache. All members in favor, no opposed. Motion carries, 6-0-0.
Paint Branch – $8,000 to purchase replacement Chromebooks.
Mr. Toledo motioned to approve the grant for Paint Branch. Second by Ms. Bernache. All
members in favor; no opposed. Motion carries, 6-0-0.
University Park Elementary: $1,286.84 to purchase resources to help students during the
pandemic.
Ms. Powers motioned to approve the grant for University Park. Second by Mr. Toledo. All
members in favor; no opposed. Motion carries, 6-0-0.
Cherokee Lane, Parkdale High School, High Point High School, and Hollywood Elementary
have not submitted grant applications.
Next Meeting
The next meeting is scheduled on January 24, 2022.
