Minutes Education Advisory Committee (EAC) October 23, 2023 Virtual Meeting Attendees Members Present Absent Carolyn Bernache, Dist 4 X Vilay Senthep, Dist 1 X Susan Miller, Dist 2 X Dawn Powers, Dist 2 X Tessie Aikara, Dist 4 X Carson Peters, Dist 4 X Isaiah Warfield, Dist 2 X Geetha Rawat X Bianca Dacres X Daniel Levin X Also Present Maria Mackie, District 4 Councilmember Kiaisha Barber, Staff Liaison Carleveva Thompson, Contract Secretary Call to Order Ms. Bernache called the meeting to order at 7:40 p.m. Old Business Approval of the September Meeting Minutes Tabled to next meeting. Request for School Supplies from Cherokee Lane The principals that attended the school luncheon held at Youth and Family services stated they will receive school supplies in February, but there is still a need for supplies. One school is looking for backpacks. Ms. Bernache discussed moving up the February school supply donation or keeping in February. This item will be added to the November agenda for the EAC to vote when a quorum is present. Update on The Every Child Project (TECP) Still awaiting to hear back from TCEP. Update on City Wide tutoring programs The new educational support staff started last week and is currently creating a database. To date, 21 students have expressed interest in the Image Learning program. The contract is still not finalized, but legal has reviewed and sent the contract back to Imagine Learning with questions. College Park Day – October 7, 2023 Ms. Bernache stated the day went very well and thanked the EAC for participating. New Business 2023 – 2024 EAC Grants Ms. Barber received an update on the number of City students that attend boundary schools. Greenbelt Middle used to have the highest number of City students, but now Buck Lodge Middle has the highest. Beltsville Academy and Northwestern High School now have the minimum number of City students. Should the EAC extend the EAC grant applications to these schools? Paint Branch, Cherokee Lane, and Berwyn Heights have submitted EAC grant applications to date. Adjournment Ms. Bernache adjourned the meeting at 8:00 p.m.
