Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 6:36 p.m. II. Welcome New Board Members a. Stuart Adams advised Ms. Fletcher that he was away on his honeymoon and would attend the next meeting. b. David Toledo- Mr. Toledo was welcomed to the Board and the members introduced themselves. III. Approval of Agenda The agenda was accepted as submitted IV. Approval of May 2, 2016 Minutes Mr. Ryan advised that Field Use requests on the May 2016 agenda were forwarded to Mayor and Council for approval. Mr. Bradford motioned to approve the minutes as submitted. Mr. Toledo seconded the motion. All were in favor. The motion passed 6-0-0 V. Treasurer’s Report - May 2, 2016 Mr. Bradford presented the bank account statement for the month of April reflecting a balance of $1,698.05. Mr. Ryan explained why the account was established to Mr. Toledo. Mrs. Pianowski motioned to approve the Treasurer’s Report as submitted. Ms. Ellis seconded the motion. All were in favor. The motion passed 6-0-0 VI. Field Use Request a. Berwyn Baptist Church Summer Soccer Camp -7/18/2016 – 07/22/2016 from 5:00p.m – 8:00p.m. Ms. Ellis motioned to approve the Field Use Request as submitted. Ms. Oarr seconded the motion. All were in favor. The motion passed 6-0-0 VII. Future Events a. Independence Day – 07/04/2016 Several Board members indicated that they would attend the event to enjoy The Night Life Band’s third year performing for the City and the fireworks. b. Back to School Give-Away – 08/13/2016 A request to change the date to August 13, 2016 was submitted for review. Pianowski motioned to approve the date change from August 27, 2016 to August 13, 2016. Ms. Oarr seconded the motion. All were in favor. The motion passed 6-0-0 c. College Park Day – 09/24/2016 i. Mr. Ryan reported that the venue has been moved to the College Park Airport. He also indicated that, as in years past, a City tent will have space available for Board members to promote its events. The College Park Airport Museum will be open and admission will be free for the day. The WWI airplane exhibit will be extended to coincide with the event.ion will be free for the day. ii. Event Coordinator is seeking suggestions for bands, etc. Mr. Bradford indicated that he knew of several bands that might be interested in performing. Mr. Ryan will send the email address of the event coordinator of College Park Day to the Board so they can directly email her with suggestions. 2 06062016 Approved Minutes d. Blues Festival – 11/05/2016 i. Awaiting return of contract from DCBS Ms. Araghi presented the signed contract to Ms. Fletcher and then explained the Blues Festival to new Board member Toledo. In regards to the give away bags- Ms. Araghi spoke with the City of College Park’s Human Resources Director, Jill Clements at the Hollywood Farmers Market about suggestions on how to encourage participation in surveys at Recreation Board events as well as possible prizes for completing the surveys. Ms. Clements shared her process at the recent Bike to Work Day with Ms. Araghi which was a bucket full of cards with prizes listed on each card. Registered riders selected cards upon arrival at City Hall and won the selected prize. Ms. Araghi indicated that she will implement this plan at the 2016 Blues Festival. VIII. New/Other Business Ms. Araghi has tabled her idea to have a British Invasion concert at the Moose Lodge until next year. Mr. Bradford said that he was asked by the Moose Lodge to sponsor or help organize a concert three times a year. Ms. Ellis will speak to a band member of The Night Life Band to see if they will play at the Lodge. Ms. Araghi also suggested that Mr. Bradford contact the Groove’s Band or King Soul to play at the Moose. Mr. Bradford will investigate and advise the Moose. Mr. Ryan reported that the City Council is working towards formalizing the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Committee which has been operating as an ad hoc committee for nearly 20 years. IX. Next Meeting: July 11, 2016 X. Adjournment Mr. Toledo motioned to adjourn. Ms. Oarr seconded the motion. All were in favor.
