Call to Order Mr. Toledo called the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m. II. Review and Approval of Agenda a. Mrs. Pianowski asked to add the College Park Seniors Program to the agenda. Mr. Bradford motioned to add College Park Seniors Program to the agenda Mrs. Pianowski seconded the motion. All were in favor. The motion passed 4-0-0. III. Review and Approval of October 2, 2017 Minutes Mr. Toledo motioned to approve the October 2, 2017 minutes. Mrs. Pianowski seconded the motioned. All were in favor. The motion passed 4-0-0. IV. Old Business a. Confirm completion of Open Meetings Training – Toledo Mr. Toledo did not complete the Open Meetings Training as previously indicated; completion is pending. b. Revisions to Field Use Rules will be approved by Mayor and Council on 11/14/2017. The Board discussed inviting Spring Field Use applicants to the December meeting for an orientation. 1  Ms. Fletcher asked that those present proofread the document and send any typographical errors noted to her by Tuesday, November 7, 2017. V. Treasurer’s Report – October 2017 a. No Changes this month balance remains $1,698.05 Mrs. Pianowski motioned to approve the Treasurer’s Report for October 2017. Mr. Toledo second the motioned. All were in favor. The motion passed 4-0-0. VI. Recent Events a. College Park Day – 10/07/2017 at College Park Aviation Museum - Mr. Ocasio reported that the event was well attended. Several Board members recommended that details about musical performances, line up, and order of appearance should be advertised prior to the event. b. Blues Festival - 11/04/17 at Ritchie Coliseum - Ms. Araghi mentioned: o that highlights of the event were posted on the City’s Facebook page; o The last act was very loud due to a smaller crowd and the performers. These issues will be noted for future events. o Lighting was provided by Audio Lighting and Event Staging (ALES) in combination with Star Time Productions. o Atomic Music’s drum kit was used in lieu of the DC Blues Society’s drum kit The Board then discussed: o The DC Blues Society’s contributions to the event; and o Ideas related to creating a Blues Society or similar organization that is College Park centered and potentially inclusive of the Clarice Performing Arts Center, University of Maryland, and the College Park Moose Lodge. o Ms. Araghi provided preliminary attendance data collected from Feedback Cards, noted how attendees heard about the College Park Blues Festival: 60%- Word of mouth 16% DC Blues Society 20%- City of College Park 5%- University of Maryland Approximately 389 patrons were in attendance. The event was also advertised through Eventbrite. It was also noted that 250 attendees were present by 7:00 p.m. o Parking challenges and the need for preliminary negotiations for parking spaces. Potential options to create a plan to offer shuttle bus services were also discussed, including contracting a city bus driver to transport patrons from the College Park Metro Station (Calvert Road side) to Ritchie Coliseum. o Proposing a review of the agreement with the DC Blues Society to assess cost effectiveness and explore options that will allow funding to be allocated to cover costs associated with shuttle bus services and band performances instead of allocations to the DC Blues Society’s. It was noted that a decision and plan is necessary by the January meeting to proceed with budget requests. o Approximately $2,000.00 was raised from the guitar raffle, donations, and vendors to send the bands to New Orleans. 2 VII. Future Events a. Breakfast with Santa – 12/16/2017 at College Park Community Center  Paula Green from the Department of Public Works will be the Elf. Supplies will be ordered the week of November 13th.  Ms. Fletcher reported that Ms. Fitzsimons confirmed the entertainment for December 16th. VIII. New Business a. College Park Seniors Program - Mrs. Pianowski shared information about hosted and upcoming events:  She attended the day trip featuring lunch and a trip to the theater on October 25th, to see On Golden Pond at the Riverside Center in Virginia.  Senior Holliday Social, November 9, 2017, 12:30-2:30 p.m. at the College Park Community Center. The event will include live music, a gift exchange, and free lunch. The Recreation Board currently supports events by reserving space for events through Parks and Recreations’ Community Connect website. Mrs. Pianowksi mentioned a conversation with Angie Burns, the Program Coordinator. The Program currently does not need assistance from the Recreation Board. b. Branchville VFW Chili Cook-off featuring the Side Effect Band Saturday, November 18, 2017- 4:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m. IX. Next Meeting: December 4, 2017 X.
