IV. Great College Park Scavenger Hunt – Post Mortem discussion:
The event was held on May 22, 2021. Thirty-three teams signed up for the event; seemed
to be a good diversity – young children, college students, parents. Almost all comments
received were positive. Ms. Frangos indicated that several people mentioned they were
able to find the answers online. Mr. Magic had approximately 100 people.
Ideas for anything different:
a. Mr. Chelliah mentioned that perhaps there could be a young person’s version and an
adult version.
V. Summer Events
Prince George’s County and the State of Maryland have lifted restrictions; therefore,
events can once again be planned. The committee offered the following ideas:
Music/Food Truck at Duvall Field in August. Park at Hollywood Market and use the city
bus for transport back and forth to Duvall Field. Ask about lifting parking restrictions in
the neighborhood for the day. [Duvall Field Park renovation will be discussed at the 7pm
- June 16, 2021 meeting.]
Music event at Lake Artemsia, perhaps with the Town of Berwyn Heights.
1
Work with College Park Arts Exchange on any music events.
College Park Day has been scheduled for October 9, 2021. In the past years, about
7000-8000 people attended. There will be a City tent at the entrance. Volunteers will be
needed. Discussed committee’s tolerance for the event in lieu of the pandemic; the
general consensus is everyone seemed to be fine since it’s an outdoor event.
Suggestions made:
o Taste of College Park tables for restaurant food sampling. Ms. Wurtzel explained
that the new Economic Development Manager wants to be involved with the
businesses of College Park.
o Exercise groups to do demonstrations.
o Bands – send any suggestions to Ms. Wurtzel. In the past “Wild Anacostia” was
always present for College Park Day. Ms. Hopkins indicated she would contact
Jazz for Blues group names.
o Ms. Frangos volunteered to help with any graphics.
o Tents not permitted: sex, drug, profanity, political – Family atmosphere.
o Pumpkin painting
o Beer Garden/Beer Truck – would have to be a contained area; no open
containers are permitted just walking around the festival.
o Charitable groups are welcome to have a table, however, no fund raising is
permitted.
There will not be any 4th of July fireworks or events due to the pandemic.
VI. Other Business
Ms. Frangos asked about replacing equipment at public parks. Reports can be placed at
(301) 699-2255 and/or https://www.collegeparkmd.gov/report#parks.
Consideration for a map showing all the restaurants, small businesses and parks in College
Park. Place on City’s website.
Dog Park is waiting on DPIE permit. Still hoping for a June opening date.
VII. Next Meeting: July 12, 2021 at 7:00pm. (Moved one week due to July 4th holiday being
observed on Monday, July 5)
